Advanced Air-Conditioning Systems Offer Industry-Leading Energy Efficiency, Attractive Designs and Flexible Climate Control Solutions

CHICAGO, Jan. 26, 2009 – The worldwide air conditioning leader, LG Electronics is showcasing advancements in energy-saving technologies, design flexibility and temperature controls at the annual Air-Conditioning, Heating and Refrigeration (AHR) Exposition (Booth #2118), which begins here today.

At the forefront of LG’s line of commercial air conditioner products on display is the new Duct-Free Flex Multi-Split Quad-Zone Air Conditioning system. This new series extends the company’s broad portfolio of applied commercial air conditioning products into the U.S. market, and features design flexibility and industry-leading energy efficiency.

This system can operate up to four interior units mounted in separate rooms for easy temperature control in each setting, but all connected to one single exterior condensing unit. Architects and engineers focusing on green buildings will appreciate the built-in Inverter technology for enhanced energy efficiency, while homeowners as well as those in the hospitality and lodging industries will enjoy the variety of stylish interior styles to choose from including the popular Art Cool Inverter Mirror design-oriented series available in eye-catching designs such as a mirror finish.

Furthering its commitment to providing energy efficient technologies in its products, LG utilizes an advanced Inverter compressor technology and an environmentally-friendly refrigerant in its systems. LG has also incorporated the advanced Inverter technology with its line of Multi-V systems which use a variable refrigerant flow (VRF) heat recovery system to operate cooling and heating simultaneously with one outdoor unit for easy temperature zoning.

All together, these advanced energy saving technologies are incorporated throughout LG’s 2009 line of commercial air conditioning products, providing innovative comfort solutions that meet the needs of a variety of commercial applications.

“LG’s Commercial Air Conditioning business continues to expand its portfolio with innovative energy saving options and technologies, without sacrificing product design,” said Steve Schmitt, Director of Commercial Air Conditioning, LG Electronics USA. “Our current 2009 innovations, such as the Multi-V and Flex Multi-Split systems, demonstrate enhanced air flow options and industry leading low sound levels in designs for all commercial and home environments.”

Innovative Energy-Saving Technologies

LG’s advanced Inverter technology uses inverter heat pump air conditioners with a variable speed compressor, rather than the constant speed found in conventional air conditioners. Instead of the compressor shutting off once the desired temperature is reached, the inverter compressor continues to operate at low speed to maintain that temperature. The benefit of this advanced technology is a more quiet operation, coupled with a reduction in overall energy usage as compared to conventional air conditioners which must cycle on and off to maintain ideal temperatures.

This inverter technology is incorporated in LG’s 2009 CAC Floor Standing and Ceiling Cassette systems, as well as the design and eco-friendly Art Cool Inverter Mirror.

For those commercial or residential environments looking to increase comfort but have a tighter budget, LG offers its High Wall Duct-Free Mini Split Standard Single Zone products. These units offer many of the same features as LG’s Art Cool Mirror products such as R-410A, an environmentally friendly refrigerant, LG’s plasma air purification system, and Gold Fin Anti-corrosion coil protection at a cost-effective price. The indoor unit also operates using only 36V DC power, which helps the qualified air conditioning contractor reduce overall installation costs as well.

Enhanced Temperature Zoning and Controls

Previously available in just two and three zone systems, LG’s new Flex Multi-Split Quad-Zone system now comes with four interior units that can be mounted in separate rooms for enhanced temperature controls. Each unit conveniently comes equipped with its own remote control allowing residential customers and commercial environments the ability to set the temperature individually in different rooms. Connected to a single exterior condenser unit, these units provide easy zoning across a variety of environments.

Also on display is LG’s recently introduced Multi-V system which offers commercial buildings and lodging and hospitality environments the unique combination of high energy efficiency with easy temperature controls in a cost-effective solution. Built around LG’s inverter compressors, the Multi-V series delivers one of the highest EER ratings available in the VRF equipment category, along with low sound operation. Using VRF technology, the Multi-V system provides commercial businesses greater temperature control therefore avoiding unnecessary energy usage in unoccupied rooms.

Industry-leading pipe lengths on the Multi-V that connect in-room systems with outdoor fans use serially arranged refrigerant pipes to connect to a single outdoor unit with the option to also connect to others. This efficient system offers outstanding energy savings with a wide variety of indoor and outdoor units. LG’s outdoor units also incorporate a modular design that can easily be scaled to suit the needs of a particular building, from high-rise buildings, high-end hotels and luxury resort facilities to commercial buildings and condominium projects.

As one of the world’s largest air conditioner manufacturers and with more than half a century of expertise in the appliance industry, LG continues to set new standards in innovative comfort solutions for commercial and residential applications.
