Airports, Stores and Restaurants Go High-Tech With Big, Bright Flat-Panel Displays

ATLANTA, June 9, 2004 - Big, bright flat-panel displays demonstrated this week by LG Electronics at InfoComm 2004 (Booth #3139) are meeting the exploding demand for "digital signage" solutions in retail stores, airports, restaurants and bars.
As the cost of LCD and plasma displays continues to drop, digital signage has become an affordable option for many organizations where space and time are at a premium, according to John Lagodimos, director of new business development, LG Commercial Products division. "Airports are upgrading their displays from heavy CRTs to space-saving LCDs and plasmas to show flight information. Retail establishments are hanging flat screens vertically from the ceiling or on a wall, with compelling images that catch - and hold - their target audiences' attention."

"The restaurant industry - an early-adopter of flat-panel plasma and LCD displays for dining areas and bars - is embracing and adopting digital signage as well, using it for interactive menus that can change from breakfast to lunch to dinner," said Leo Bull, director of sales, system integration, LG Commercial Products. "It's all about offering businesses unique ways to deliver information to their customers in ways that combine functionality, aesthetics and creativity."
Among the digital signage products being showcased by LG are two 60-inch widescreen (16:9) HDTV plasma monitors (Model MU-60PZ90V) which can be hung either vertically or horizontally, four 42-inch widescreen (16:9) LCD HDTV monitors (Model L4200AT); two 30-inch widescreen (15:9) LCD HDTV monitors (Model L3020T) with LG's proprietary Super In Plane Switching (Super IPS) technology, and a 15-inch LCD HDTV flat-panel monitor with built-in speakers (Model RU-15LA61), perfect for counter or shelf displays.

Visitors to other areas of the LG booth will see a wide array of products for commercial applications, including plasma and LCD displays in a variety of screen sizes and with a variety of features. Especially important for digital signage applications, all of LG's new plasma displays contain image-sticking prevention options that minimize the "burn-in" issues inherent to plasma technology. In LCD displays, LG's proprietary "Super IPS" technology offers a wide, 176-degree viewing angle, allowing distortion-free viewing from almost any angle.
