To figure out your optimal viewing distance simply multiply the diagonal width of the TV screen you want by 1.2.

You also want to take into account the viewing angle—the angle formed by the side of the screen and your seating position. For the best cinematic experience, the recommended viewing angle is 40 degrees.1

How do you measure viewing distance?
1. Measure the diagonal length of the screen in inches. That's your TV screen size.
2. Multiply TV screen size by 1.2. That’s the best distance while watching at a 40-degree viewing angle.
