What people are saying

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best purchase I have ever made! This portable air conditioner is amazing! It is so easy to transport with wheels at the bottom and very convenient because I don’t have to put the unit in the window, the hose goes up in the window. Easy install and easy uninstall. I also love that it has a fan setting as well along with a timer and sleep mode. Best purchase ever and so worth it!

This unit starts draining from the middle back within 15 minutes of use. Gallons per afternoon. A different unit in another room leaks no water so not a humidity issue. Any help appreciated

How long have you owned the LG 10,000 BTU Portable Air Conditioner, Model # LP1015WNR, and how often have you had a maintenance service done on it or when was the last time that you had one performed on it? It has an Upper Drain Port that can be used when you need dehumidification in high humidity, but it if it is leaking from that drain port after only 15 minutes of use then it will require a repair service...^IFV

Can these get mold/mildew? I have had mine for about 4 years and never had to drain it. It would have a smell sometimes but it would go away. Other than that I clean the filters but am worried about black mold spores being pushed around my home....

Asked by: MommaBear2
The main cause of odor emanating from an air conditioner or from the LG 10,000 BTU Portable Air Conditioner, Model # LP1015WNR is a lack of proper cleaning and maintenance. If you do not look after the unit, there is a good chance that an odor will emerge from it someday. Among the most common reasons for a foul odor emanating from the unit is a clogged filter. The filter inside the air conditioner gets covered with dust and other small particles over time. The purpose of the filter is to keep this debris out from other parts of the air conditioner. But, there comes a time when the debris buildup is beyond a certain limit and the air conditioner starts to smell. Moreover, a clogged filter does not let air pass easily through the air conditioner. This not only intensifies the odor, but can also hamper the performance of the appliance. The filter can become more clogged if you have pets in the house. The advantage and at the same time the problem with portable air conditioners is their easy accessibility. Pets can get close to the unit, which lets their fur get into the system and clog up the air filter. The internal components of a portable air conditioner become moist whenever you turn it on, especially if you like in a humid place. In addition, if the unit is not cleaned properly, the accumulated dust combines with the moisture. This leads to the growth of bacteria that eventually turns into mold and mildew. It is the perfect breeding ground for bacteria which cause molding, thereby highlighting the importance of keeping your portable air conditioner clean. The issue is that mold & mildew can grow and spread to any part of the air conditioner. So, if you suspect it is the root cause of the odor, you might have to check every component...^IFV
