Audio is missing from some speakers (not all) - Home Theater

The absence of audio coming from your sound system can be frustrating, but the steps below will help to find and resolve the issue.

Note: If the system does not power on, refer to Device Has No Power.

Note: If the system speakers play sound, but your wireless subwoofer does not, refer to Connecting Your Wireless Subwoofer.

Sound Test

Performing a sound test will play sound through each of your home theater system's speakers, and will not rely on an input signal. The test will determine if the problem originates with the speaker, a connection, or is specific to the system hardware.

Note: Please perform this sound test before moving on to the troubleshooting section.

  1. First, press the Home/Smart  button on your remote.
  2. Choose Settings  near the right side of the screen.
  3. Choose the Audio stop menu.
  4. Select Speaker Setup from this menu.
  5. Press the VOL + button on your remote until the volume level is greater than 10 (higher depending on hearing ability and ambient noise levels).
  6. Choose Test to perform a speaker test.
  7. Once the sound test is complete, please move on to the Troubleshooting section to diagnose the issue.

Note: While in this menu you can set the distance from your central seating position to each of the speakers. This will ensure proper configuration and sound levels.

  1. Did the sound play through all of the speakers during the Sound Test? Yes No
  2. Is the sound missing from the wireless speakers only? Yes No
  3. In this case, the speakers are working properly.

    • Press the Sound Effect button on your remote and choose any mode except for bypass. The other modes will play through all speakers even if the original program is not broadcast in 5.1 surround sound or greater.
  4. For setup and troubleshooting related to wireless speakers, refer to Connecting Your Wireless Speakers.

  5. Are you using Private Sound Mode? Yes No What is this?
  6. Private Sound mode will only play through the mobile device it is enabled on, and not through the sound system.

    • Disable Private Sound mode.
    • If you intend to use Private Sound mode, but are not getting sound through your mobile device.
      • Restart your wireless router (unplug it, then plug it back in).
      • If the issue persists, disable Private Sound mode to check if the audio system functions normally in other modes.
      • If the sound system functions in other modes, contact your mobile device's manufacturer for assistance.
      • If the unit does not play sound in other modes, keep Private Sound mode disabled and change your answer above to NO.
  7. Private Sound mode is available on select devices and requires the LG AV Remote App. This mode allows you to play your sound system's audio through your mobile device (similar to wireless headphones).
    • Make sure the speaker wires are plugged into the correct slots and firmly inserted? (match color-coding)

    • Try to plug one of the confirmed working speakers into the port of the non-working speaker.
    • Once the steps above are complete, re-run the Sound Test.
  8. Did the confirmed working speaker work in the previously non-working port? Yes No
  9. The speaker is not working properly, please Contact Contact Us.
