  • Operation

At a Glance

Your LG front load washing machine is designed with a safety locking feature to protect you and your home from any injury or damage when the washer is in use.

Note

If your washer is displaying an error code in the display, please visit our LG Washer - Error Codes List article.

Try This

Your LG washer door will remain locked because of one of the following reasons:

  1. The water level is too high.
  2. The water temperature is too hot.
  3. There was a brief power outage.

The Water Level Is Too High

If you are experiencing a locked door and the water level is high inside the drum, run a drain-only cycle to drain the water from the drum.

  1. Press [Power] button to turn on the washer.
  2. Press [Spin] button repeatedly to select the desired spin speed.
  3. Press [Start/Pause] button to begin.

This will activate the drain-only function on your LG front load washer. Once the water has drained, pause or stop the cycle and the door will unlock.

You can also manually drain the washer by unplugging the drain hose located behind the access panel on the front of the washer.

The Water Temperature is Too Hot

Wait for the washer to cool down. The door will unlock if the washer has cooled and there is no water inside it.

Note

Depending on the home's temperature load size, it can take up to 20 minutes for the drum to cool down for the door to unlock.

If it is still unable to open, unplug the power cord and wait three to five minutes. The door should open normally.

There Was a Brief Power Outage

If a brief power outage were to occur, the door will remain locked until the next time it is powered on. If the power outage lasts longer than three to five minutes, the door will unlock automatically.
