TV - Experiencing issues with optical connections

There are many ways to set up your Audio system, one of the most common ones is using an optical cable.


Set Up

     

  1. Place your Audio device close enough to the TV you are connecting.
  2.  

     

  3. Locate your optical cable.
  4.  

    Note:The optical cable has 3 flat sides and one rounded side.

     

  5. Align the 3 flat sites of the cable with the Audio device and insert the cable.
  6.  

     

  7. Align the 3 flat sites of the cable with the TV and insert the cable.
  8.  

    Note:The optical cable port may be protected by a spring loaded door or a removable plastic plug.

 

Settings

On the TV, you may need to set the sound out. If you have an LG TV this is covered on Step 1 and 2, if you have a different manufacturer's TV, please check its manual for more information.

    TV

       

    1. On your TV, press the home key > Settings > Advanced
    2.  

       

    3. Click Sound > Sound Out > Optical.
    4.  

    Audio Device

       

    1. On your Audio device, ensure the mode is set to Optical.
    2.  




Auto Set up

If you are struggling with the set up manually, LG TV's have a program that walks you step by step.

 

  • On your remote, press Home > choose Device Connector.
  •  

     

  • Select your type of device you are connecting.
  •  

     

  • Choose the port you are have it connected to.
  •  

     

  • Select the type of connection you want your TV to use for the Audio output.
  •  

    Note:If your TV prompts you to change your sound settings, Select YES.

     

  • if you are using a HDMI connection, you can toggle on Simplink, which allows you to use your TV remote to control your Audio device.
  •  

    Note:You can turn Auto power sync on / off to suit your preference, this turns on / off your Audio device when the TV is turned on / off.

     

  • To use the LG remote as a universal remote, ensure your TV and Audio device are withing 3 feet range and not behind closed doors.
  •  

     

  • Universal control lets you set the manufacturer.
  •  

     

  • Universal control lets you set remote type so your functions and commands work correctly.
  •  

    Note:If the functions or commands do not work, click the arrows on the side to switch the remote type.

     

  • Click done to finish

    General troubleshooting

       

    1. Ensure the Audio device is not muted.
    2.  

       

    3. Ensure the volume is turned up.
    4.  

       

    5. Try another movie or a different app.
    6.  

       

    7. Ensure the TV sound out setting is changed to optical.
    8.  

       

    9. Ensure the Audio device sound mode is changed to optical.
    10.  

       

    11. Try a different optical cable.
    12.  

       

    13. If you are using a streaming app such as Netflix or Hulu from the TV.
    14.  

         

      • In the app select Settings for audio > select the preferred audio option.
      •  

    Not getting 5.1 surround?

    1.  

      Ensure you are playing a title that supports 5.1 surround.
    2.  

    3.  

      Under the audio options in the app / movie, set the sound to 5.1.
    4.  

    5.  

      Ensure the audio device you are using supports 5.1.
    6.

      Check your wired connection.
