Washing Machine has an Electrical or Burning Rubber Smell

Top Load Washer - Odor

If your unit has an electrical or rubber burning smell. This smell taken care of following the few steps below.

  1. New Units

    It is normal for a new unit to emit odors the first few times they are operated. This may present as a burning smell, plastic smell, rubber smell, a fishy odor, or even a warm burning smell.

    This can be caused by the heating of new motor coils and insulation material around the motor heating up. It should go away after 10 or 20 full cycles.

  2. Visual Inspection

    Visually inspect the bottom of the unit's interior. Some models will have filters that can be removed and clean. If there are food items, rubber items such as toys trapped in these locations the debris will need to be cleared away to prevent the unit from heating the item.

  3. Request Repair

    If the electrical or rubber burning smell persist, you may need to request for a repair service online. A technician will be able to check the unit to ensure that no part of the unit is burning due to installation problems or faulty part of the unit.
