Note

If the refrigerator or water filter was recently installed, it is necessary to flush out 2 gallons of water and dispose of the first 2 bins of ice. This will allow any debris in the line to be cleared and enable the filter to fully engage.

  1. Replace the Water Filter

    • We recommend using a genuine LG water filter and replacing it every six months.

    • You should also replace the water filter if the indicator is on or if the water dispenser output has recently decreased.

    • Buy replacement LG refrigerator water filters online.

    Note

If the water filter was replaced recently, please proceed to Step 2.

  2. Flush the Water Tank.

    • If the dispenser has not been used for a long period of time, properly flush the system by pressing and releasing the dispenser pad by intervals of 30 seconds on and 60 seconds off until you dispense 2.5 gallons of water.

    • Try the water again to see if the taste has improved.

  3. Test the water from your kitchen sink.

    • The refrigerator and kitchen sink will get water from the same source.

    • If the water from the kitchen sink also tastes bad, the problem is with the water supply.

    • Please contact a plumber for further assistance in troubleshooting the water supply.

If the problem continues, service will be required. Please visit our Request a Repair page for further assistance.
