New Products Are Digital Cable-Ready, Equipped with Industry-First Technologies

INDIANAPOLIS, Sept. 9, 2005 - Taking its dedication to the home entertainment industry to the next level, LG Electronics is showcasing its fully integrated high-definition plasma display panels to the custom installation market. These new units are an all-in-one solution and include a built-in high-definition digital video recorder (HD-DVR). LG's broad line of plasma display innovations is on display here this week at the Custom Electronic Design and Installation Association (CEDIA) EXPO 2005 (Booth #114).

"By combining HDTV recording capability with the latest plasma technologies, we are empowering consumers to control all aspects of the viewing experience," said Robert A. Perry, vice president, consumer electronics sales and channel marketing, LG Electronics USA., Inc. "Our award-winning PY2DR series is yet another reaffirmation of LG's commitment to providing unique, innovative and industry-changing products to the consumer electronics marketplace."

Headlining LG's plasma display portfolio, the PY2DR series ' available in 50- and 60-inch models ' features all the benefits of plasma HDTV combined with a powerful 160-gigabyte HD-DVR built into the ultra-thin cabinet, capable of storing up to 13 hours of digital high-definition programming or 63 hours of digital standard-definition programming.

The PY2DR also features the convenience of the latest Gemstar Digital TV Guide Onscreen interactive program guide, which displays eight days of program information. The unit is also Digital Cable Ready, which eliminates the need for a separate cable set-top box. Combined with the built-in 9-in-2 multi memory card readers, users can store digital photos or music from their digital camera, or MP3 player onto the hard drive that can further be organized and saved for future viewing and listening.

The new widescreen plasma-DVRs incorporate an automatic time-shift feature, which continuously records in one-hour intervals. Other features include slow motion rewind and forward capabilities and instant replay. The user-friendly sets enable viewers to easily organize recorded programs and set up repeat recordings of their favorite show.

These sets feature LG's fifth-generation ATSC VSB/QAM tuner, which receives terrestrial digital HDTV and unscrambled digital cable, as well as analog broadcast and cable tuners. The PY2DR series is driven by LG's proprietary XD EngineTM technology. The second generation XD Engine chip built into the unit takes the low resolution of analog signals to near high-definition levels by improving brightness, contrast, detail and enhancing color as well as reducing signal noise. This total solution results in cinema-like high-resolution images. Available at consumer electronic stores nationwide, the 60PY2DR and 50PY2DR have a manufacturers suggested retail price of $14,999 and $8,999 respectively.

In addition to the PY2R Series, LG demonstrated its 50- and 42-inch integrated widescreen LCD HDTVs (50PX5D and 42PX5D, respectively) that incorporate a built-in NTSC/ATSC/Clear QAM tuner, a 5000:1 contrast ratio, 9-in-2 Multi Memory Card Reader, XD Engine technology and built-in speakers. Designed to receive digital HDTV programming and premium cable services without the need for a set-top box, these Digital Cable Ready LCDs are built around industry-standard CableCARDs available from cable operators. All of LG's plasma displays provide one of the most comprehensive image sticking prevention measures to minimize damage as a result of stationary images.
