Academy of Television Arts & Sciences Honors LG President with Lifetime Achievement Technical Emmy®

LOS ANGELES, Sept. 18, 2008 – When Hollywood’s brightest television stars shine at the 60th Primetime Emmy® Awards, LG Electronics will be on center stage – literally.

LG Electronics is the Official HDTV of the 60th Primetime Emmy® Awards telecast, airing live from the NOKIA Theatre in Los Angeles on Sunday, Sept. 21 (8-11 p.m., ET/PT) on the ABC Television Network.

The Academy of Television Arts & Sciences also is honoring LG Electronics’ President and Chief Technology Officer Dr. Woo Paik with the academy’s highest individual technical honor, a lifetime achievement Emmy® Award.

During Sunday’s telecast, dozens of LG plasma and LCD HDTVs will enhance the Emmy® experience for presenters, honorees, VIPs and guests in attendance. Renato Basile, producer of the 60th Primetime Emmy® Awards, said, “Stylish LG technology not only graces our stage but contributes significantly to our overall production with high-def flat screens throughout the NOKIA Theater for the talent and crew to monitor the broadcast.”

LG 60-inch plasma screens will be flanking the futuristic stage and serving as teleprompters for the hosts and presenters, while 50- and 42-inch LG plasmas will be used throughout the production. LG 37- and 19-inch LCD HDTVs will be deployed in key backstage production locations.

Leading up to this weekend’s Primetime Emmy® festivities, the Academy honored Dr. Paik as the “Father of Digital TV” during the 2008 Primetime Emmy® Engineering Awards ceremony last month in Los Angeles. Dr. Paik received the 2008 the Charles F. Jenkins Lifetime Achievement Emmy®.

The Academy cited Dr. Paik’s many contributions to television, particularly his leadership in the development of digital compression technology for digital TV broadcasting, and his role in the development of the standard for distribution of scrambled cable channels over satellite. Dr. Paik’s leadership also has established LG Electronics as a global technology powerhouse and innovator in digital TV standards, including the new mobile/handheld DTV broadcast system now being standardized.

The 60th Primetime Emmy® Awards are being produced by AEG Ehrlich Ventures LLC. Returning with executive producer Ken Ehrlich are producer Renato Basile and co-producer Danette Herman. Lou Horvitz will be directing.
