HDTV Picture Quality and Optimization
  1. Select your problem for helpful troubleshooting solutions:

  2. LG TVs have APS (Auto Power Save), ECO, and intelligent sensor picture modes which uses a sensor to adjust backlight/brightness automatically based on the lighting in the room. On older LG TVs check the Energy Saver settings. If energy saver is set to AUTO, this can lower the screen brightness to save power.

Quick Fix: Disable energy saver or change picture mode.

    How to disable energy savings:

    1. From the Home Screen, select SETTINGS > ADVANCED/ALL SETTINGS.

    2. Select PICTURE.

    3. Select ENERGY SAVING, then select OFF to disable.

    How to change picture mode:

    1. From the Home Screen, select SETTINGS > ADVANCED/ALL SETTINGS.

    2. Select the PICTURE MODE SETTINGS option.

    3. Toggle between picture modes such as STANDARD, SPORTS or VIVID for your preferred mode.

  3. If your image is blocky, pixelated, or grainy, this may be caused by a poor connection quality or lower quality content displaying on a HDTV.

    Quick Fix: Run picture test.

    1. From the Home Screen, select SETTINGS > ADVANCED/ALL SETTINGS.

    2. Select PICTURE.

    3. Select PICTURE TEST, then select and play a 4K video from YouTube.

    Low Resolution Example

NOTE: If the TV displays properly with a 4K video, then your TV works perfectly fine, you have only been watching lower resolution videos.

  4. When the TV image appears stretched, out of proportion, or doesn’t fill the screen, this is typically due to the Aspect Ratio settings on your TV or connected external device. You can choose the setting option that looks best to you, but for best results, we recommend you set your TV aspect ratio to 16:9.

    1. Change Aspect Ratio of TV

      1. From the Home Screen, select SETTINGS > ADVANCED/ALL SETTINGS.

      2. Select PICTURE > ASPECT RATIO.

      3. Cycle through the options until you find the correct setting. We recommend you set your TV aspect ratio to 16:9.

    2. Change Aspect Ratio of Connected Device (e.g. Cable Box)

If you’ve updated the Aspect Ratio setting on your LG TV and the issue persists, you will next need to update the settings of your connected device (cable box, satellite box, etc).

      1. Depending on the cable box provider, use the remote control to navigate to SETTINGS, find ASPECT RATIO SETTINGS or other synonymous description.

      2. Select the option that looks best to you. Again, we recommend setting the aspect ratio for all devices to 16:9.

      3. If you cannot find the correct settings menu, contact your cable or satellite box provider for additional assistance.

      External Device Reference Image

  • For 4K TVs, true 4K contents will look awesome but some DVDs only have a maximum resolution of 480p which makes them look blurry. Bluray, HD, and DVD which are up to 1080p should look great on your TV.

  • TruMotion is a built-in effect which optimizes image quality for fast moving images (sports and action). However, if you notice that your picture appears strange or looks like the soap opera effect, ghosting or double images, it may be a good idea to disable TruMotion.

    How to Disable TruMotion:

    1. From the HOME SCREEN, select PICTURE MENU.

    2. Select ADVANCED/ALL SETTINGS,

    3. Select PICTURE OPTIONS, then TRUMOTION.

    4. Cycle through each of the options, if this does not resolve the issue, turn it OFF.

  • LG TVs uses a default pin code of 0000 or 1111, if this does not work, you will need to contact LG.
