LG TV - How to Troubleshoot Your LG Magic Remote

At a glance

A remote control may become unresponsive for many reasons. The most common reasons are battery issues, interference between the remote and the TV, the remote not being registered to the TV (Magic Remote), or physical damage.

    How to pair your Magic Remote


    If your Magic Remote fails to pair with your LG TV you can check the remote’s Bluetooth output using your smartphone’s Bluetooth function by doing the following:

    1. Confirm your remote has good batteries. Pressing any button on the Magic Remote should cause the POWER button light up. If the POWER button does not light up, new batteries will be required. Replace if necessary.

    2. If previously paired with the TV, deregister the Magic Remote, (PRESS and HOLD the HOME and BACK button together for 5 seconds).

    3. Turn on Bluetooth on your Smartphone

    4. Open the Bluetooth Screen and select SCAN or SEARCH FOR NEW DEVICE.

    5. Press the OK button on the Magic Remote while looking at your Smartphone’s Bluetooth menu.

    6. LGE MRXX should appear if the magic remote is outputting a Bluetooth signal.

    NOTE

    If the troubleshooting fails, the remote will need to be replaced. Order a new remote by visiting our TV accessories page.

    How to setup Universal Control


    Go to SETTINGS, then ALL SETTINGS, then GENERAL, then DEVICES, then UNIVERSAL CONTROL.

    Follow the onscreen prompts to set up the connected devices for universal remote control.

    Troubleshooting

    If your remote fails to control your LG TV try the following:

    1. Confirm your remote has good batteries. Replace if necessary.

    2. Ensure that the IR sensor on the TV has clear line of sight and there are not any objects blocking it.

    If the remote is still unresponsive after trying the steps above, order a new remote by visiting our TV accessories page.

  5. MR600 & MR650

    Magic Remote troubleshooting


    If your Magic Remote fails to pair with your LG TV you can disconnect and reconnect the remote from the TV by doing the following:

    1. Confirm your remote has good batteries. Pressing any button on the Magic Remote should cause the POWER button light up. If the POWER button does not light up, new batteries will be required. Replace if necessary.

    If previously paired with the TV, deregister the Magic Remote, (PRESS and HOLD the HOME and BACK button together for 5 seconds).

    Press the OK button on the Magic Remote to re-register it with the LG TV.

    NOTE

    If the TV displays a message stating, “Bluetooth Initialization Failed,” Your TV will require service.

    If the troubleshooting fails, the remote will need to be replaced. Order a new remote by visiting our TV accessories page.

  6. MR650A, MR18, MR19 & MR20

    Magic Remote troubleshooting

    If your Magic Remote fails to pair with your LG TV you can check the remote’s Bluetooth output using your smartphone’s Bluetooth function by doing the following:

    1. Confirm your remote has good batteries. Pressing any button on the Magic Remote should cause the POWER button light up. If the POWER button does not light up, new batteries will be required. Replace if necessary.

    5. Press the OK button on the Magic Remote while looking at your Smartphone’s Bluetooth menu.

    6. LGE MRXX should appear if the magic remote is outputting a Bluetooth signal.

    NOTE

    If the TV displays a message stating, “Bluetooth Initialization Failed,” Your TV will require service.

    How to set up your Magic Remote as a universal remote


    1. On the magic remote, press SETTINGS, then select ALL SETTINGS, then CONNECTIONS, then DEVICE CONNECTOR.

    2. Select the device you want to setup from the provided list. If your device is not available, universal control for the device via the LG Magic Remote is not supported at this time.

    3. Select the corresponding INPUT port, MANUFACTURER, and the SERVICE PROVIDER for your device and press NEXT.

    4. You will see Remote Type 1 on the screen. Use the cursor/pointer to test the functions of buttons displayed directly on the screen.

       NOTE: Do not press the button on the remote, use the cursor/pointer to press from on the screen.

    If the buttons do not perform the expected function, continue to the next Remote type and test the functions again.

    Once a compatible remote type is found, follow the remaining on screen prompts tom complete universal control setup.

    NOTE

    If you are are unable to setup the universal control for your connected device, it may not be supported at this time.
