Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Dryer I've Ever Owned This dryer is amazing! It has so many useful features and the steam cycle is great for freshening up garments quickly. I used it for my brand new shower curtain and it came out super fresh with no fold marks. I wish I had purchased the pedestals but the dryer itself is fantastic. Highly reccomend!

does the steam cycle shrink clothing any?

Asked by: cabcab
You will need to read the garment label on your clothing to see which fabrics are not suitable to use steam on because they will shrink or be damaged by steam. Every fabric behaves differently but steam will shrink most, if not all, fabric types. It will effectively shrink wool clothes which is why the Steam Sanitary™ cycle for the ENERGY STAR® Qualified LG 7.4 cu.ft. Smart Wi-Fi Enabled Gas Dryer with TurboSteam™, Model # DLGX3901W is recommended for cotton and polyester material. (Do NOT use for urethane foam, down feathers or delicate items), and the Steam Fresh™ Cycle uses the power of steam to quickly reduce wrinkles and odors in fabrics. It brings new life to wrinkled clothes that have been stored for an extended time and makes heavily wrinkled clothes easier to iron. Steam Fresh™ can also be used to help reduce odors in fabrics. Some fabrics will even shrink when soaked for long periods in warm water when you wash them in a washer so you always have to refer to the garment label for guidance on which fabrics you can use steam with. Even if you do not use steam, some clothes shrink in the dryer. Dryers use a combination of heat and rotation to remove moisture content. Different materials react in different ways to heat, but most fabric textiles shrink when exposed to high temperatures. As the dryer tosses around a load of clothes in a hot, enclosed area, it forces the fibers to gradually constrict; thus, resulting in shrunken garments. The shrinking impact of dryer heat varies depending on the particular type of fabric. Granted, most fabrics shrink rather than expand when exposed to high temperatures, some shrink more than others. Knowing which fabrics are the most susceptible to shrinkage will allow you to make smarter choices when washing and drying your clothes. Wool is one of the worst offenders in terms of heat shrinkage. Whether it’s a sweater, shirt or any other type of wool garment, you should consider drying them in a separate load. This soft and fluffy material constricts when exposed to high temperatures. 100% cotton garments also have a tendency to shrink in the dryer...^IFV
