Dehumidification product difference [air conditioner]

  • Troubleshooting

Dehumidification product difference

There are a few products that help during those torrid hot humid summer days. From the budget-conscious ventilation fan to the moisture-ridding dehumidifier to the more costly air conditioning unit. The former just pushes air around albeit a bit cooler from the fan movement, the middle unit gets the humidity somewhat under control while the latter provides cool air while eliminating the moisture in the air.

Dehumidification

Any process involving the removal of moisture in the air (vaporous state) as well as drying the air are called [Dehumidification].
The outcome varies depending on the principle of dehumidification, the specific proceeding method (mechanism), and tools used. Just like that, dehumidification by air conditioners or dehumidifiers are similar in terms of principles but due to the difference in specific methods (mechanism), they exhibit different characteristics.

Principles of dehumidification

  1. Suck in the wet air [moisture]
  2. Surface contact with the heat exchanger (evaporator) [Temp ▼]
  3. Condensation transpires into dew droplets [water bubbles]
  4. Surface contact with the heat exchanger (condenser) [Temp ▲]
  5. Dry air with no moisture gets discharged to the outside.

Moist air touches the evaporator and condenser, condensate is generated, and dry air is discharged.

Characteristics of dehumidification operations of air conditioners and dehumidifiers

[Dehumidifier]

  1. Dehumidifier is an integrated type of evaporator and condenser that discharges hot air as it is.
Air temperature at water supply outlet : In case of 13L(3.4gal) product, it is about 38℃~39℃(100.4°F~102.2°F), In case of 15L(3.9gal), it is about 40℃~41℃(104°F~105.8°F)
[Indoor temperature 27℃(80.6°F), relative humidity 60%. See the lab measurement criteria.]
[If you use other account than summer, wind temperature of the water supply outlet can differ.)
  2. During winter or in a location with low indoor humidity, defrosting [dF] notification can occur in the control panel display window.

[Air Conditioner]

  1. . Since the air conditioner uses higher air speed ventilation and cooling capacity than the dehumidifier, it provides a greater amount of dehumidification.
Amount of dehumidification by air conditioner: drains outside, into a bucket, or in its small container tank. So, if full, it will hinder the unit’s cooling performance until emptied.
Amount of dehumidification by air conditioner: customers can connect a drain hose and have unit continuously drain during the product usage time.
  2. As cooling and dehumidification take place at the same time, it stands to reason that the air conditioner operates mostly during the summer months only.
