What People Are Saying

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Worse that worst! We bought a pair including the Top Loading High Efficiency WT5070CW washer approx 5 years ago. Right from the beginning, we could never wash a load without four or five unbalanced interruptions. When the unit fills, the water never gets above the clothes. If left alone, it will wash the clothes on top while dry. For a time, we used to pour pitchers of water in from the sink to fill the washer. Then we learned how to trick the washer into putting enough water in by shutting off the washer when the water stops filling and starting again from the beginning. That will double the water quantity. Problem is that sometimes we forget and miss the right opportunity and waste lots of time redoing. After five or more unbalanced error codes, we get frustrated and just decide to run spin only to get it over with. However, after two minutes on "Spin Only," it adds water, every time. To spin only, we have to run it for the two minutes while watching it and shut the washer off after about 2 minutes (before the water adds) and start the spin only again, for another 2 minutes.....multiple times. I have tried resetting the control unit a few times with no success. When we first got the washer, we couldn't believe this and called for warranty support. When the service man came out the second time, he said he would be happy to replace the control unit, but that it wouldn't help.....since this happens with all units of this model. We had him replace the controls anyway and nothing changed. We have finally had enough and are looking for a new washer starting today. You can bet that it won't be an LG from Best Buy.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Absolutely the worst washing machine ever!!!! Do not buy this piece of garbage! The absolute most annoying washer ever made. Constantly get uneven loads tasked hours to complete a wash. Can only wash small loads at a time and even that goes out of balance. Buy a Maytag without all the bells and whistles. Washer works great.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from King of unbalanced washing machines We have had this machine for several years and every time I use it it makes me angry. If I put more then half a load, it inevitably goes off balance. The problem is that you have to add your laundry a piece at a time to try and make it balanced before you wash. Then during the washing cycle things move around so it doesn’t remain balanced. Add to that the fact that different fabrics absorb water at different levels further exacerbating the miss distribution of weight. In short, doing laundry with this machine is a nightmare. Handing a high capacity, high efficiency machine is pointless when you can’t use it at high capacity unless you have time to constantly rearrange the items inside when it goes off balance. I DO NOT recommend this machine. I expect appliances to make my life easier and to save me time. This machine does neither.

I have a WT5070CW. Had it since 07/03/2012. About 6 to 8 months ago when the drum turns it would squeal. 2 days ago it started banging loud noises when drum starts to spin then the bottom plate stops. what could be the problem do you think?

Asked by: skidd
Hi skidd. We regret to read about the issues that you are currently experiencing with your ENERGY STAR® Qualified LG 4.7 cu. ft. Ultra Large Capacity High Efficiency Top Load Washer with WaveForce™, Model # WT5070CW. The machine will need to be inspected to determine what is causing it to making those loud banging noises when it goes into the spin cycle because it could be a number of things. The most common cause for a washing machine making banging noises when it goes into a spin cycle is usuallu due to worn tub bearings. Other causes may be due to the tub seal and bearing kit needing to be replaced, the Rear Drum with bearing might need to be replaced, the bearings might be worn out and several other causes. Check to make sure that nothing is caught in the drain pump as that also will cause loud noises. You can contact our Support Center at (800) 243-0000 for assistance in making arrangements for a repair service or visit us at to submit an online request for one...^IFV

Why does my washer only use hot/warm water even when set to cold? I've checked both water lines and they are working and hooked up correctly.

Asked by: Serena918
Hello, we know you stated you checked, but please recheck the hoses at the home valve and the back of the washer (our hot and cold inlet valves are on opposite sides than other brands). It is NORMAL for the unit to use some hot water even on a cold wash setting. It does this minimally in order to activate detergent, UNLESS the TAP COLD wash/rinse temp is selected. If the unit is really only drawing hot and not mixing hot with cold and the hoses are not reversed, there could be a problem with the inlet valve. If this is the case, please call us at 1-800-243-0000. ^AC

The Detergent Compartment in the ENERGY STAR® Qualified LG 4.7 cu. ft. Ultra Large Capacity High-Efficiency Top Load Washer with WaveForce™, Model # WT5070CW has a maximum detergent limit line in it that you should not exceed when filling it with detergent. You should never exceed the manufacturer's recommendations about how much detergent to use and you will find their recommendations on the packaging for that detergent. All the detergent you use for each load will be fully used up so you will need to fill the detergent for each load. This washer is specially designed to only use HE (High-Efficiency detergent) and because detergents come in varying concentrations, it is imperative that you follow their recommendations on how much to use...^IFV

What does the code CL mean on my LG washer

Asked by: Anonymous
CL is actually a code letting you know that Child Lock is on. When child lock is on the control panel will be disabled and settings cannot be adjusted.
