Works with Voice Assistant

Making it easy to control your LG appliances with your voice.
It's always on - just ask for home monitoring, remote control and more.

    1. Before you begin.

      Make sure you have registered your appliances in LG SmartThinQ apps. Download the app on Google Play or Apple Play Store.

    2. Link LG SmartThinQ to Google Assistant.

      There are two ways to link your LG SmartThinQ account to Google Assistant.

      NOte: You can choose to link Direct Action (LG SmartThinQ) to control LG SmartThinQ appliances. Direct Action supports 9 devices: Washer, Dryer, Air Conditioner, Robot Cleaner, Air Purifier, Dishwasher, Range, Refrigerator, and Styler.

      Using Google Assistant app to link Direct Action or Conversation Action

      1. Open Google Assistant app.
      2. Select “Assistant Directory” icon at the top right.
      3. Search “LG” in the Explore tap.
      4. Select action that you would like to link.
        1. For Direct Action, select “LG SmartThinQ”.
        2. For Conversation Action, select “LG”.
      5. Select “TRY IT”.
      6. Sign in with LG account to complete the process.

      Using Google Home app to link Direct Action

      1. Open Google Home app.
      2. Select “Home Control” from the menu.
      3. Select “+” button at the right bottom to add devices.
      4. Select “LG SmartThinQ”
      5. Sign in with LG account to complete the process.
    • NOTE:You may call your product with device type or nickname that you set in LG SmartThinQ App.

    • Examples : “Ok Google, talk to LG to turn on air conditioner.” Or “Ok Google, talk to LG to turn on Living room AC.

    • You can also say “Ok Google, talk to LG to help" directly to check more example sentences.

    Direct Action: LG SmartThinQ

    1. Washer

      Check Remaining Cycle Time

      • “Ok Google, what is my washer doing?"
      • “Ok Google, how much time is left for the washer?”
      • “Ok Google, what cycle is the washer on?”

      Turn On/Off

      • “Ok Google, start washing my clothes.”
      • “Ok Google, start/stop the washer.”

    2. Dryer

      Check Remaining Cycle Time

      • “Ok Google, is my dryer running?”
      • "Ok Google, how much time is left on the dryer cycle"
      • Ok Google, what cycle is the dryer on?

      Turn On/Off

      • "Ok Google, dry my clothes."
      • "Ok Google, start/stop the dryer"

    3. Air Purifier

      Check Air Quality Level

      • "Ok Google, talk to LG to check air quality level."
      • "Ok Google, talk to LG to give me indoor air quality."

      Turn On/Off

      • "Ok Google, turn on/off the air purifier"

      Set fan Speed (Range: High, Medium, Low, Auto)

      • "Ok Google, talk to LG to set air purifier to high fan speed."
      • "Ok Google, talk to LG to change air purifier to low fan speed."

    4. Refrigerator

      Set Temperature (Range: 33℉~46℉ for Fridge, -6℉, -4℉~6℉, 8℉ for Freezer)

      • "Ok Google, talk to LG to set refrigerator temperature to 35 degrees."
      • "Ok Google, talk to LG to increase/decrease refrigerator temperature by 1 degree."

      Ice Plus On/Off

      • "Google, talk to LG to turn on/off ice plus of refrigerator."

      Fresh Air Filter On (Set to power)

      • "Ok Google, talk to LG to turn on fresh air filter of refrigerator."

      Check Temperature

      • "Ok Google, talk to LG to check temperature of refrigerator."
      • "Ok Google, talk to LG for temperature of refrigerator"

      Check Status (including temperature and water filter status)

      • "Ok Google, talk to LG to check status of refrigerator."

      Ice Plus On/Off

      • "Ok Google, turn on/off the ice plus of the refrigerator."

      Fresh Air Filter On (Set to power)

      • "Ok Google, turn on the fresh air filter of the refrigerator."

    5. Air Conditioner

      Check Temperature

      • "Ok Google, what temperature is the air conditioner?"
      • "Ok Google, what is the air conditioner set to?"

      Turn on/off

      • "Ok Google, turn on/off the air conditioner."

      Set Temperature

        (Note : The applicable temperature range differs by product model and activated mode.)

      • "Ok Google, set the air conditioner temperature to 65 degrees."
      • "Ok Google, turn up the air conditioner temperature by 2 degrees."

      Set Mode

        (Note: Heat and Auto are also available for stand, wall and system air conditioner type.)

      • "Ok Google, set the air conditioner to cooling."
      • "Ok Google, set the air conditioner to dry operation mode."

    6. Robot Cleaner

      Check Status

      • "Ok Google, what’s the robot cleaner doing?"
      • "Ok Google, what cycle is the vacuum on?"

      Turn On/Off

      • "Ok Google, start/stop vacuuming."
      • "Ok Google, start/stop the robot cleaner."

      Charge Battery

      • "Ok Google, charge the robot cleaner."
      • "Ok Google, return the robot cleaner to the docking station."

    7. Range

      Check Status

      • "Ok Google, what cycle is the range in?"
      • "OK Google, what course name is the range set to?"
      • "Ok Google, what is the range set to?"

      Turn Off

      Ice Plus On/Off

      • "Ok Google, turn on/off the ice plus of the refrigerator."

      Fresh Air Filter On (Set to power)

      • "Ok Google, turn on the fresh air filter of the refrigerator."

    8. Dishwasher

      Check Status

      • "Ok Google, what is the dishwasher doing?"
      • "Ok Google, how much time is left on the dishwasher?"

    9. Styler

      Check Status

      • "Ok Google, what’s my styler doing?"
      • "Ok Google, how much time left for the styler?"

      Turn Off

      • "Ok Google, start/stop the styler."

      NOTE: After you unlink LG, you won't be able to control LG appliances with Google Assistant.

      Unlink LG with Google Assistant app

      1. Open Google Assistant app
      2. Select "Assistant Directory” button at the top right
      3. Select "LG" in the directory list (under home control)
      4. Select the "Unlink” button under account status
      5. Confirm "Unlink”
      1. Download LG SmartThinQ app.
      2. Sign in with LG account (Note: If you don’t have LG account, create account and sign in).
      3. Select "Register” and complete the process.

    2. LG SmartThinQ with Google Assistant supports Google Home, Android OS 6.0 or later, and iOS 9.1 or later.

      (Note: The language on the phone must be set to English/US.)

    3. Yes. If you have named air conditioner to “Living Room AC” in LG SmartThinQ App, say “Ok Google, talk to LG to turn on Living Room AC” to Google Assistant. Make sure that you set up product nickname with the space where it is located, such as Bedroom Purifier and Hallway Dryer so that it can be easily memorized and called.

    4. Yes. You can control air conditioner one after another with Google Assistant. For example, control Living Room AC first. And then control Bedroom AC after the session.

    5. Some LG SmartThinQ functions are not supported through voice control. For example, you cannot turn a range on with a voice command yet.

    6. Your product is not supported by LG SmartThinQ or is not registered in the app.

    7. When Google Assistant is not able to understand product nickname or device type. Check if your product nickname is appropriate for voice assistant service.

    1. Before you begin.

    2. Enable Skill.

      1. Open Alexa app
      2. Select “Skills" from the Menu
      3. Search for "LG SmartThinQ"
      4. Select Skill you would like to enable
        For Smart Home Skill, select "LG SmartThinQ - Smart Home"
      5. Select "Select Enable"
      6. Sign in with LG SmartThinQ account
    3. Discover Devices.

      When you enable Smart Home Skill (LG SmartThinQ - Smart Home), begin "Discover devices" to complete the setup. There are two ways to complete the process.

      Using Alexa app

      1. Open Alexa app
      2. Select "Smart Home" from the Menu
      3. Select "Devices"
      4. Select "Discover"

      Using Amazon Echo

      1. Say "Alexa, Discover devices" to your Echo device

      After the discovery, you can control LG appliances with your voice.

    Smart Home Skill: LG SmartThinQ - Smart Home

    Note: Name of device type needs to replace as the product nickname.

    1. Air Conditioner

      Check Current/Target Temperature

      • "Alexa, check current/target temperature of air conditioner."
      • "Alexa, what's current/target temperature of air conditioner."

      Turn On/Off

      • "Alexa, turn on air conditioner."
      • "Alexa, turn off air conditioner.

      Set Temperature

      • "Alexa, set air conditioner to 65 degrees."
      • "Alexa, increase air conditioner by 2 degrees."

      Robot Cleaner

      Turn On/Off

      • "Alexa, turn on robot cleaner."
      • "Alexa, turn off robot cleaner."

      Air Purifier

      Turn On/Off

      • "Alexa, turn on air purifier."
      • "Alexa, turn off air purifier.

      NOTE: After you disable the LG SmartThinQ skill, you won't be able to control LG appliances with Amazon Alexa.

      Disable Smart Home Skill (LG SmartThinQ - Smart Home)

      1. Open Alexa app
      2. Select “Smart Home” from the Menu
      3. Select “Smart Home Skill” under “Configure Smart Home”
      4. Select “Disable” on the right side of skill name “LG SmartThinQ - Smart Home”
      5. Select “Disable skill”
      1. Download LG SmartThinQ app
      2. Sign in with LG account (Note: If you don’t have LG account, create account and sign in)
      3. Select "Register” and complete the process.
    1. LG SmartThinQ - Smart Home Skill is in Smart Home Skill type which you can ask Alexa to control devices. For example, "Alexa, turn on air conditioner.” This skill supports 3 device types (Air Conditioner, Robot Cleaner, Air Purifier) to control.

      LG SmartThinQ Skill is in Custom Skill type which you can ask LG through Alexa to control devices. For example, "Alexa, ask LG to turn on air conditioner.” This skill supports 8 device types (Washer, Dryer, Refrigerator, Air Conditioner, Robot Cleaner, Air Purifier, Range, Dishwasher) to check status and control with more features than LG SmartThinQ - Smart Home.

    2. The following LG appliance models with LG SmartThinQ logo are compatible with Amazon Alexa:

    3. Yes, if you enable Smart Home Skill (LG SmartThinQ - Smart Home), you can use product nickname to control. To check the list of discovered device, open Amazon Alexa app and go to ‘Menu > Smart Home > Devices.’

      No, if you enable Custom Skill (LG SmartThinQ), it can connect to the LG appliance which was last used. For best results, use the general product type rather than the nickname. For example, say "air conditioner” rather than "living room a/c.”

    4. Yes, if you enable Smart Home Skill (LG SmartThinQ - Smart Home), you can use voice control with multiple devices in same product type.

      No, if you enable Custom Skill (LG SmartThinQ), you can use voice controls with one device of each product type. If you register two air conditioners in the SmartThinQ app, you can only use voice controls with the air conditioner which was last used.

    5. Some LG SmartThinQ functions are not supported through voice control. For example, you cannot turn a range on/off with a voice command yet.
