If the picture on your LG TV appears too large or subtitles are cut off, the aspect ratio may have been changed or zoomed in.
To fix this, press the [Settings] button on your remote. Go to [All Settings], [Picture], [Aspect Ratio], and select [16:9] or [Original].
Note that while using apps such as Netflix or YouTube, the aspect ratio cannot be changed because it is controlled by the streaming service.
Why does the picture look too large or stretched?
- The picture looks zoomed in
- The aspect ratio is incorrect
- Streaming apps lock the picture size
How to get your LG TV picture back to normal
On your TV remote, press the [Settings] (gear icon) or [Mute] button three times in a row.
Step 1. Changing the aspect ratio
- For 2021 and later models (webOS 6.0 or higher): [Settings] button on the remote, [All Settings] on the TV screen, [Picture], [Aspect Ratio], [User Selection], [16:9] or [Original]
- For 2020 and earlier models (webOS 5.0): [Settings] button on the remote, [All Settings] on the TV screen, [Picture], [Aspect Ratio Settings], [Aspect Ratio], [16:9] or [Original]
Step 2. Adjusting your set-top box settings
- If the issue only occurs when watching through a set-top box, the output resolution may be set too low, or the aspect ratio may not match your TV.
- In this case, subtitles may be cut off even if you change the TV's aspect ratio.
- Use your set-top box remote to change the resolution or aspect ratio.
- Setup steps vary by manufacturer, so please contact your set-top box manufacturer or service provider for help.
Step 3. Adjusting your PC's resolution
- If text is cut off when your laptop is connected to your TV via HDMI, change the PC resolution to the setting recommended for your TV.
- Right-click an empty area on your desktop, then select [Display settings].
- Under [Scale], make sure [100%] is selected.
- Under [Display resolution], select the resolution labeled [Recommended]. This is the optimal resolution for your connected TV.
Step 4. Still need help?
If the issue persists after following the steps above, you can get further support through LG Chatbot on our website or by requesting a technician visit.
FAQ
- Q. Why can't I change the picture size while watching Netflix or YouTube?
- A. Streaming apps such as Netflix and Youtube control picture format and quality through their own service policies. As a result, the aspect ratio is locked while using these apps and can't be changed with your TV remote.
- Q. Why are news subtitles or the broadcaster's logo slightly cut off at the edges of my screen?
-
A. Turn on [Just Scan] in your TV settings.
This shows the full broadcast picture on your screen without cropping or stretching.
Note: This feature is only available when the broadcast signal is in HD (720p, 1080i, or 1080p).
