If your TV cannot connect to the internet, check if another device can connect to your network, or try connecting your TV to a smartphone hotspot to determine whether the issue is with your TV, router, or internet service.
Restart your router and modem, and then reconnect your TV to Wi-Fi in the TV network settings.
Why Can’t Your LG TV Connect to the Internet?
- Your router or modem is turned off, or your internet service provider is experiencing a temporary service interruption.
- The Wi-Fi password is incorrect, or your TV is too far from the router to receive a strong signal.
- There may be a temporary IP address assignment error between your router and modem.
- Your TV’s internal Wi-Fi module may have a temporary issue or hardware problem.
How to Restore Your TV’s Internet Connection
Step 1. Test the Connection with a Smartphone Hotspot or Another Device
- Check if your smartphone or laptop can connect to the same router’s Wi-Fi network.
- If only your TV cannot connect, turn on Mobile Hotspot on your smartphone. Connect your TV to the hotspot and check if it can access the internet.
- If your TV connects to the hotspot, the TV hardware is working properly.
Step 2. Restart Your Router and Modem
- Unplug the power adapters for your modem and router from the power outlet.
- Wait about 10 seconds, and then plug the modem back in first.
- After one minute, plug the router back in and wait for both devices to finish starting up.
Step 3. Reconnect Your TV to the Network
Press the Settings (gear icon) or Mute button on your TV remote three times in a row.
- Reconnect your TV to the network. For a wired connection, connect a LAN cable to your TV. Your TV will automatically detect the cable and connect to the network.
- For 2021 or newer TVs (webOS 6.0 or later): Press the Settings button on your remote, and then select All Settings, General, Network, Internet Connection, and Wi-Fi Connection.
- For 2020 TVs (webOS 5.0): Press the Settings button on your remote, and then select All Settings, Connection, Network Connection Settings, and Wi-Fi Connection.
- For 2019 TVs (webOS 4.5): Press the Settings button on your remote, and then select All Settings, Connection, and Wi-Fi Connection.
- For 2018 or older TVs (webOS 4.0 or earlier): Press the Settings button on your remote, and then select All Settings, Network, and Wi-Fi Connection.
Step 4. Check the Connection Between Your TV and Router
- Wired connection: Make sure the LAN cable connecting your TV and router is securely plugged in at both ends.
- Wireless connection: Check your router name (SSID), and enter the Wi-Fi password correctly. Passwords are case-sensitive.
- If the connection appears normal: If your TV still cannot access the internet, restart your router and modem.
Step 5. Check Your Router and Modem Internet Connection
- Restart your modem: Unplug your modem’s power cable. Wait 10 seconds, and then plug it back in.
- Restart your router: After your modem finishes starting up, unplug your router’s power cable. Wait one minute, and then plug it back in.
- Check the connection: When the internet status light on the front of the equipment is on, try connecting your TV again.
