LG TV - Supported Video Codecs For Connected USB Devices

  • Troubleshooting

At a Glance

To play video files on the TV, the file extension, codec, and other requirements must be met.
If only a specific video file cannot be played, it is not a problem with the TV, but a codec used in the video file is not supported by the TV.
So it's not a product defect and you need to check the file and TV for compatibility.

You can check the codec information of video files by installing a third-party video encoding program on your PC.

Causes and Symptoms

  • The screen does not fit right.
Wait! Here are more tips!
Encoding
A process of compressing the data for reducing the size of video, image, or audio files.
Codec
A compound word created by combining the words 'coder' and 'decoder', representing a protocol to digitize analog signals and save/play them.
A wide variety of codec types exist, including MPEG and WMV series.

Try this

Play a video file on your PC.

➔ After installing a third-party encoding program on the PC, play the video file with it to check the playback information.

If the video file codec specifications do not match the required video file format for TVs, you cannot play the file on your TV.
