If Your Front Load Washer Is Not Filling with Water and Shows an IE Error Code

  • Troubleshooting

An IE (Water Inlet Error) code appears on the display when water is not flowing into the washer properly.

Before Cleaning the Inlet Filter

  • Turn off the water supply.
  • Disconnect the inlet hose.

Why Is Water Not Flowing into the Washer Properly?

  • The water supply valve may be closed, or the water supply may be interrupted.
  • The inlet hose may be kinked or frozen.
  • The inlet filter may be clogged with debris.
  • On a front-load washer, the drain hose may be positioned too low, causing water to drain out as the washer fills.
  • The end of the drain hose may be submerged in water, causing water to drain out as the washer fills.
  • How to Check Your Water Supply and Drain Hoses

Case 1. Open the Water Supply Valve

If your water supply valve is closed, turn it counterclockwise until it is fully open.

Case 2. Check the Hose Connections

Make sure your cold water hose (blue) and hot water hose (orange or red) are connected to the correct valves.

Case 3. Check the Inlet Hoses for Kinks or Freezing

Straighten any pinched or kinked inlet hoses. If the water supply valve or inlet hose is frozen, wrap it in a warm towel (122–140°F / 50–60°C) to thaw it out.

Case 4. Clean the Inlet Filter

Cleaning the filter after disconnecting the water supply hose

Use pliers to pull out the inlet filter, and scrub away any debris with a toothbrush.

Case 5. Keep the Drain Hose Above Water

Make sure the end of your drain hose is not submerged in water. A submerged hose can prevent proper draining or cause water to flow back into the washer.

Case 6. Check the Drain Hose Holder Position

Checking that the drain hose holder is securely attached

If the drain hose has popped out of its holder, snap it firmly back into place.

    Case 7. Still need help?

If the issue persists after following the steps above, you can get further support through LG Chatbot on our website or by requesting a technician visit.

    Frequently Asked Questions

    Q. Why does my washer fill with cold water when I select a hot-water-only cycle, or vice versa?
    A. This is a normal part of your washer’s operation. Your washer may automatically mix hot and cold water to protect your laundry and maintain the optimal temperature for the selected cycle. As long as your hot and cold water hoses are connected correctly, you can continue using your washer.

Move left or right to check the contents.
