Installation Check - Laundry Dryer

At a Glance

A dryer installation test examines the condition of the exhaust system to guarantee optimal functioning. Perform the test periodically to ensure the dryer is performing at its best.

Try This

  1. Activating the Installation Test

    Remove the drying rack (on some models) and any paperwork/items inside the drum, and then close the door.

    Note

    DO NOT load anything in the drum for this test, as it may affect the accuracy of the results.

  2. Press the Power button then IMMEDIATELY press and hold the designated buttons.

    The button sequence for the installation test can vary depending on your dryer model. A ln5 message will display if the activation is successful.

  3. Press the Start/Pause button.

    Press the Start/Pause button. The appliance will start the test, which will last a few minutes. Take note of the number the display changes to, if any.

    • After 1 minute, the display should change back to . Take note of the first number shown and the highest number that displayed right before that.
    • After the second minute, the display will read “End” or “0”.
    • 20 seconds later, it will either go completely blank, or it will start flashing error codes.
  4. Check the display for results.

    During the test cycle, monitor the Flow Sense display on the control panel. If the Flow Sense LED has not turned on when the cycle ends, the exhaust system is adequate.

    If the exhaust system is severely restricted, the Flow Sense LED will turn on. Other problems may also be shown with error codes. See the chart below for details and solutions.

    Slowly increased in temperature Venting Error Code. These codes indicate that the dryer is detecting a restriction in airflow and cannot keep the heater on for the entire cycle for safety reasons.
    1. Dirty Lint Filter
    2. Crushed Dryer Exhaust
    3. Closed or damaged outside exhaust
    4. Blockage in home ventilation ducts
    5. Incompatible home ventilation duct installation
    1. Clean lint filter
    2. Straighten or replpace dryer exhaust.
    3. Open or replace outside exhaust
    4. Contact a professional vent cleaner to inspect and clean ducts
    5. Contact a professional vent cleaner to inspect setup vs LG dryer requirements
    Rapidly increased temperature No issue detected with the heating element and no airflow restriction detected.
    1. Energy Saver setting is on (Normal/Cotton cycle only)
    2. Selecting incorrect cycle type
    3. Humidity sensor needs to be cleaned.
    1. Deactivate Energy Saver by holding the button for 3 seconds
    2. Use the time or manual dry settings
    3. Wipe the humidity sensor with a damp cloth and let dry before use.
