Windows is slow – Checking CPU usage

If your computer feels slow, you can use the Task Manager to help identify which process or application is causing high CPU usage.

Cause and Symptoms

  • After installing Windows, automatic updates may be downloaded and installed, causing slowdowns when using Windows.
  • This can happen if your notebook PC is infected with a virus or malware.
  • Have you checked to see if there is a processor that is causing excessive work on the CPU, the computing device?

Try this

  1. Press [Ctrl + Alt + Delete] on the keyboard simultaneously and then select Task Manager.

  2. When the following appears, click the [Details] button.

  3. Click the Processes tab, then click the CPU column header to sort processes by CPU load.

  4. If a specific process has high CPU usage, please research it by checking the Internet for that process by name.

  5. Select the suspicious process and then click the [End Task] button in the bottom right.
