<Sydney, Australia> Brisbane Airport is undergoing a major A$5 billion upgrade in preparation for the 2032 Olympic Games. As part of this transformation, the airport has deployed approximately 950 LG commercial displays managed by LG SuperSign CMS. The project modernises passenger wayfinding, flight information displays (FIDS) and operational communications while delivering improved reliability, sustainability and centralised control across the multi-terminal campus.

As a privately-owned critical infrastructure operator serving a rapidly growing city, Brisbane Airport required a modern, highly reliable digital signage and information system. The existing infrastructure was fragmented, difficult to monitor centrally, and increasingly unreliable. With passenger volumes expected to rise significantly ahead of the 2032 Olympics, the airport needed a scalable platform that could support diverse display types, deliver real-time information, meet strict security requirements, and align with its net-zero sustainability goals — while remaining manageable by a relatively small ICT team.

The LG Solution

The upgrade spans a comprehensive range of LG display technologies tailored to different airport environments, including:

  • Standard 43- and 49-inch commercial panels
  • Ultra Stretch displays in totems
  • High-brightness outdoor units (49XE series)
  • 110-inch UM5K indoor screens
  • A 136-inch All-in-One LED (LAPA series) in international arrivals

These displays support gate information, FIDS, dynamic passenger messaging and operational communications across domestic and international terminals, baggage handling areas and car parks.

At the core of the system is LG SuperSign CMS, deployed on-premise to meet the airport’s security and operational control requirements. The solution leverages LG’s System-on-Chip (SoC) platform and internal web page player, allowing real-time flight information and content to play directly on the displays without external media players.

Operational Benefits of LG SuperSign CMS

LG SuperSign CMS has transformed day-to-day management for the airport’s ICT and operations teams:

  • Centralised remote monitoring of approximately 950 displays
  • Proactive fault detection and triage without the need for daily physical checks
  • Executive-level visibility of fleet performance
  • Simplified architecture by eliminating external media players

“LG SuperSign has been a game changer for my team. We just don’t have the arms and legs to go around and check those 950 screens on a daily basis. The monitoring capabilities really give us that eyes-on view of what’s across our infrastructure.”

Anthony Tully-Smith, ICT Applications Manager at Brisbane Airport

“We’ve taken what was a fragmented digital signage system, not very visible to management, now to an integrated modern solution with centralised management and health visibility. LG SuperSign enables us to take a proactive stance and make sure that the FIDS and other signage is highly available and always visible to passengers.”

Security & Sustainability

Security was a critical requirement given the airport’s status as essential infrastructure. The on-premise SuperSign deployment provides full control, while LG’s device hardening prevents unauthorised content (such as USB sideloading).

Sustainability was equally important. LG’s ESG credentials, including Carbon Trust footprint reduction certification on UH series screens and a free e-waste program, aligned with Brisbane Airport’s net-zero ambitions. Power consumption monitoring and optimisation further support energy-efficiency goals.

The airport selected LG for the combination of product variety, reliability, security features, sustainability credentials and strong local partnership support from LG Electronics and integrator Programmed.

“The reliability of the displays is essential. Without them working, people are lost—quite literally. Prior to the upgrade, our phone would ring hot when equipment failed.”

Michael Kerr, Integrated Operations Centre Manager

Looking ahead, Brisbane Airport views LG as a long-term partner for further innovation as Terminal 3 expands and additional LED and messaging capabilities are introduced ahead of the 2032 Olympics.

“It’s important for us to have a partner like LG. The innovation and the fresh thought that team brings has really helped me accelerate the digital experience across all of our terminals.”

Anthony Tully-Smith, ICT Applications Manager at Brisbane Airport

At Brisbane Airport, the combination of LG commercial displays and SuperSign CMS has delivered a modern, secure, sustainable and centrally managed digital platform — ready to support growing passenger numbers and the demands of a major international event.
