Does not feel cold air when you turn the power on, and press [Cooling] button?
Cool air is coming, but cooling is very less.
An air conditioner operates with the principle of inhaling ambient air, cooling the air, and then blowing cooled air to the room.
If these procedures do not work well, the cooling capability may be degraded.
Causes and Symptoms
- When set temperature is too high
- When there is lots of dusts in the filter
- There is too much heat in the room due to glass window, direct sunlight
- When any other mode like dehumidification or Energy Saving [EO] mode or Fan Mode is set
- When the surrounding is hot due to lack of ventilation of hot air from the outdoor unit
At a glance
1. If you are facing less cooling only during day time, it may be due to high ambient temperature. Check AC performance during night time when ambient temperature is comparatively less
2. Pre-cool the room for 30–60 minutes prior to sleep so that the AC isn't struggling to shed the day's built-up heat
Try this
Check the operation mode of the air conditioner.
➔
Select the cooling mode and set the target temperature of 18℃(64.4°F), and observe for 30 minutes and check if is cold.
➔ Select highest Fan Speed [F5] so that cold air can circulate effectively.
➔ For faster and more cooling, you can select "VIR" mode in which the AC works at more than 100% rated capacity and high fan speed.
➔ Select proper Vane angle to feel cold air. There are 6 vane angle to choose from.
Clean the filter regularly.
➔ If the AC filter is clogged, cooling may be degraded, and may cause noise and condensation.
Functional filters apart from the ultra fine filters can not be washed with water.
First, check the filter management section in the user manual before cleaning it.
[Wall mounted air conditioner]
How to remove the filter of the wall-mounted air conditioners varies among models.
Check the filter type of the model that you are using. (See the figure below.)
1. Remove the filter and remove any dust with a soft brush or use a vacuum cleaner.
If it is severely contaminated, wash it in water using a neutral detergent and rinse it thoroughly with water. (Do not use hot water over 40℃(104°F).)
2. Fully dry the filter in well-ventilated and shaded place.

Indoor unit Check Points
Check the installation location
➔ If Indoor unit is installed in one corner of the room, cold air circulation may not be effective.
Check direct heat source
Outdoor unit Check Points
Check the air ventilation condition of the outdoor unit
➔
Remove obstacles from surroundings of the outdoor unit, or open the ventilation window.
If the temperature in the outdoor unit chamber is high, hot air may flow into the air conditioner.
Remove obstacles from the front, the rear and the surroundings of the outdoor unit to allow exhausting hot air from the unit out of the building.
Open the window or the ventilation window of the outdoor chamber, and keep the louver of the ventilation louver horizontal as possible.
Does the outdoor unit get hot after exposed to direct sunlight for an extended period?
➔ Install a screen on the top of the outdoor unit to protect the unit from transfer of outdoor heat into the unit.
If the outdoor temperature is high due to intense heat, the temperature inside the outdoor heat may rise.
The air conditioner may fail in performing normal cooling function of outdoor is below 18℃(64.4℉), or above 48℃(118.4℉).
If the temperature on the outdoor unit rises high due to direct sunlight during hot summer, cool air may not blow even if you run the air conditioner long.
In such a case, unplug the power cord of the air conditioner, and spray water on the evaporator to remove the heat.
If the place of the outdoor unit is largely exposed to sunlight, install a screen over the unit. This will effectively protect the unit from sunlight.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
- Q. Why is my LG AC not cooling as expected?
- A. Common causes include dirty filters, blocked vents, low refrigerant, a dirty condenser, or a wrongly set thermostat.
- Q. What quick checks restore cooling?
- A. Clean or replace the air filter. 2) Ensure all vents are open and unblocked. 3) Clean the outdoor condenser coils. 4) Check the thermostat setting and mode. 5) Verify the unit isn’t in energy-saving or econo mode.
The screen should be tightly fastened when installing to prevent fluttering of the screen, and the screen should not block the rear and the sides of the unit.
