To control a set-top box with an LG TV remote, first ensure HDMI-CEC is enabled on both devices (LG TV: Settings > General > External Device Manager > HDMI-CEC/Simplink > On; set-top box: find its CEC option in its settings and enable it).
Connect the STB to the TV via HDMI, then select the STB as the active input. With HDMI-CEC on, you can use the LG remote to power the STB on/off , navigate menus, and control playback using the remote’s directional pad and OK button; in some cases you may need to choose the STB as the target device in the LG remote’s setup (or switch to the STB input first). Note that exact labels and features vary by model, and some functions may be limited if the STB or TV firmware doesn’t fully support CEC. If full control isn’t available, you can still use the LG remote for basic navigation and rely on the STB’s own remote for advanced features. Suggestions: 1) Update firmware on both devices, 2) Recheck HDMI cable quality and port, 3) Check if your LG remote has a dedicated “STB” or “TV/Set-Top” mode.
