What People Are Saying

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Superb display but..... Purchased one of these for my Media Production rig in 2016, it's been excellent for the past 26 months but now, it has signs of dead pixels all over the display which I never noticed until I had the room light off. The screen is riddled with dead pixels everywhere so I am a little disappointed that it has started to fail in such a short time........ Such a shame and it failed just out of the warranty period that LG offered... A the worse thing is I can't afford a replacement.....

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Awesome ultrawide curved screen but with a fairly hefty price tag I found the process of finding the right screen for me very difficult. I use a screen for work and playing games like EVE Online, World of Tanks, Stellaris etc. I was previously using the Dell Ultrasharp 24 inch IPS monitor at 1920x1200 but wanted more screen real estate. After doing a significant amount of research on the web and looking at reviews on places like youtube, I decided that the ultrawide screen running 3440x1440 would be better for me than a 4K screen. It is also slighly less demanding on a graphics card. I also decided that the 34 inch screen size was the sweet spot for me in terms of size and could just about afford the cost. There seems to be no shops that I could find in the UK that stocked screens of this size to actually look at one, so I had to take a calculated gamble with this unseen purchase. I was slightly concerned about the response time for the IPS panel (especially for games) but had seen enough positive reviews that I decided to take the gamble. I mainly use this screen on an old 2nd gen Intel I5 2500K using an Nvidia GTX1060 with 6GB of RAM. The screen image is very sharp, it is a great size for working on multiple documents at once or even viewing multiple pages of the same document. From a gaming point of view, the wider screen is is great and the curve makes it all the more immersive. There is no noticable refresh lag and no eye fatigue that I saw reported on some screens with lower response times. I am pleased to report there are no dead pixels (so far, fingers crossed it stays that way). I have found the curve does have a slightly detrimental effect when reading horizontally along very long rows, this is a minor quibble though. Backlight bleed is noticable especially in the corners and marginally worse in the two lower corners. This is only normally visible during boot times when the screen is entirely black. In normal use and even in games like EVE with a large percentage of the screen being black, you do not notice the backlight bleed at all. The speakers are okay, I do not use them much but they seem passable when I do use them. The control system using the joystick seems fairly straight forward, it can be a little sensitive but that maybe me getting used to it. For work and games the resolution seems to work well. For video content and streaming, there is a limited supply of 3440x1440 content at the moment. This normally mean black lines on either side of the image. This is not a primary concern for me as there are other screens I can use for streaming but could be annoying for others if this is their only screen. The monitor does seem to generate a small amount of heat (on top near the centre) when it has been on for some time especially compared with other IPS panels (smaller and non curved). I might not have noticed this except for the recent warm spell when I was working close to the screen and felt the heat on my face. I have no qualms about recommending this monitor, it gives a great display but I think it is a little pricey. Using an Nvidia GPU does mean I miss out on freesync which this monitor supports but even with my old CPU I have not noticed any screen tearing at all and run all my games now with the maximum graphics settings.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect for Gaming, Very Good for Productivity I used to have two BenQ XL2411Z. What annoyed me was something that is typical for VN panels. The viewing angle stability is really low, thus even on my 24" monitor the colors were already fading when I just looked at the lower part of the monitor. Now with the LG 34UC88 the colors are perfect, from all possible angles that one usually looks on it. My graphics card is an R9 290, thus I can use FreeSync. Previously Star Citizen had quite some lag, but now with FreeSync this has become way better, even when playing with the full 3440x1440 resolution. And traveling through space on a 34" 21:9 monitor is just amazing. The installation of the mount was really easy, navigating through the menus with the "joystick" is also well done. The usual IPS glow is only visible when the monitor shows a black screen, but already in games like Star Citizen you don't notice it anymore, even when in space. What I don't like so much about the monitor is that the screen split feature of the OnScreen Control app isn't implemented well. When I split my screen into three parts, all windows are always maximized to the complete size of one part. Meaning if I split my screen into 3 parts and open e.g. the friends list of Steam, the screen split feature will enlarge this list to 1/3 of my monitor, which is totally unnecessary. You can't keep the size of any window like it was originally. But I've already requested that LG updates this feature, so let's see how well they listen to customer feedback. Otherwise I can completely recommend this monitor.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from ONSCREEN SPLIT WORKS ONLY ON 1 SCREEN. Overall, it is an excellent monitor. YET. Few minor things that do NOT work. - Onscreen split works only on one screen at a time. "PS. I have two of these." this is an embarrassment LG engineers didn't make it work for multiple screens at the same time - there is an issue with ghosting after working on the same window for few minutes. not a big deal - but could be better. Will possibly revise my review after LG updates software and makes onscreen available on multiple screens. thanks.
