AMD FreeSync may be missing or not work if your device is not connected by HDMI, the TV is not set to Game Optimizer picture mode, or your TV/graphics card does not support the feature.
Connect via HDMI, switch to Game Optimizer, then turn AMD FreeSync on in the Game Optimizer settings.
If flicker occurs, adjust the FreeSync range setting if your model provides that option.
Please Note
- AMD FreeSync works only when a device is connected by HDMI.
- AMD FreeSync can be turned on only when the TV picture mode is set to Game Optimizer.
- Depending on your LG TV model and the connected graphics card, AMD FreeSync/VRR may not be supported.
- If you notice flickering in some games, change the FreeSync range setting from Wide to High (if available on your model).
- For exact usage and settings of third-party devices, please check the manufacturer's customer service or user manual.
Why AMD FreeSync might be unavailable or not working
FreeSync/VRR may be unavailable, disabled, or appear to do nothing when the TV is not in Game Optimizer picture mode.
It can also fail if the source device is not connected via HDMI, or if either the TV model or the graphics card does not support FreeSync/VRR.
In some gaming setups, flicker can occur depending on the selected FreeSync range.
1. The TV is not using Game Optimizer picture mode
AMD FreeSync is available only when the TV picture mode is set to Game Optimizer.
If you are using another picture mode, the FreeSync option may be disabled or hidden.
2. The source device is not connected through HDMI
AMD FreeSync requires an HDMI connection.
If the device is connected through a non-HDMI method, the feature will not turn on.
3. The TV model or graphics card does not support FreeSync or VRR
Support depends on both the LG TV model and the connected graphics card.
If either device does not support FreeSync/VRR, the option may not be available.
4. Flicker occurs with certain FreeSync range settings
Some models offer range options such as High (90–120 Hz) and Wide (48–120 Hz).
If flicker occurs in a specific game or setup, switching from Wide to High may reduce flicker.
How to check compatibility and turn AMD FreeSync on
Confirm your source device is connected by HDMI and switch the TV picture mode to Game Optimizer.
Then open the AMD FreeSync setting and turn it on if the option is available.
If flicker appears after enabling it, change the FreeSync range setting if your model supports that adjustment.
Step 1. Connect your device by HDMI
Connect your PC or console to the TV using an HDMI cable.
AMD FreeSync will not work over non-HDMI connections.
Step 2. Switch the TV picture mode to Game Optimizer
Set the TV picture mode to Game Optimizer.
If the TV is not in Game Optimizer mode, the AMD FreeSync option may be hidden or disabled.
Step 3. Turn on AMD FreeSync in the Game Optimizer menu
Open the AMD FreeSync menu and set it to On if your TV model and connected graphics card support it.
If the option is missing, confirm both the TV and the source device support FreeSync/VRR.
Step 4. Reduce flicker by changing the FreeSync range (if available)
If your model provides a FreeSync range option and you notice flicker, change the setting from Wide to High.
Flicker can vary by game and hardware combination.
