To use IPTV or other set-top box services on your LG TV, connect the set-top box to the TV with an HDMI cable and then switch the TV input to the matching HDMI port.
Please Note
- Turn off the TV and the set-top box before connecting or disconnecting HDMI cables.
- Use a High-Speed HDMI cable for stable video and audio.
- If you enable SIMPLINK (HDMI-CEC), connected devices may turn on/off automatically or switch inputs automatically depending on the device.
A set-top box may not appear on the LG TV screen in these situations.
Most set-top box connection issues are caused by an incorrect HDMI connection, selecting the wrong TV input, or a feature setting (such as HDMI-CEC) not matching your intended use.
1. The HDMI cable is connected to the wrong port or is not fully inserted
If the HDMI cable is loose or connected to a different HDMI port than expected, the TV may show “No Signal” or display a different device.
2. The TV input source does not match the HDMI port used
If the TV is set to a different input (for example, HDMI 1 instead of HDMI 2), the set-top box screen will not appear.
3. The HDMI input name was customized
If the HDMI input was renamed during initial setup, the input may appear as “Set-Top Box” (or another custom name) instead of “HDMI 1/HDMI 2,” which can make it harder to identify the correct port.
Connect the set-top box to the LG TV and select the correct HDMI input.
Step 1. Connect the set-top box to the TV using HDMI
1) Turn off the TV and the set-top box.
2) Connect one end of the HDMI cable to the HDMI OUT port on the set-top box.
3) Connect the other end to an HDMI IN port on the LG TV.
4) Turn on the TV and the set-top box.
5) Note the HDMI port number you used (for example, HDMI 1 or HDMI 2).
Step 2. Switch the TV input to the HDMI port you connected
1) On the LG TV remote, press the Input button (Selects an input source).
2) Choose the HDMI input that matches the port you used.
3) If the input was renamed previously, it may appear as “Set-Top Box” instead of the HDMI port number—select that input if it matches your connection.
Step 3. Optional: Enable SIMPLINK (HDMI-CEC) to control the set-top box with the TV remote
Setting: Settings > General > External Devices > HDMI Settings > SIMPLINK (HDMI-CEC) > On
Turn SIMPLINK (HDMI-CEC) on if you want compatible HDMI devices (including some set-top boxes) to be controlled through the LG TV remote and to support automatic input switching.
If the set-top box does not respond after enabling SIMPLINK, confirm that the set-top box supports HDMI-CEC and check its HDMI-CEC setting in the set-top box menu.
FAQ
- Q. Why does my LG TV show “No Signal” after connecting the set-top box?
- A. This usually happens when the TV is on the wrong input or the HDMI cable is connected to a different HDMI port than the one selected. Recheck the HDMI port number used on the TV and select the matching input.
- Q. My HDMI input shows “Set-Top Box” instead of HDMI 1 or HDMI 2. Is that normal?
- A. Yes. If the HDMI input was named during initial setup or device recognition, the TV may display the custom label (such as “Set-Top Box”). Select that labeled input if it corresponds to the HDMI port your set-top box is connected to.
