When you connect a game console such as PlayStation or Xbox to your LG TV, you can enable Game Optimizer (or Instant Game Response on some models) to reduce input lag and apply game-focused picture settings.
Please Note
- To use Game Optimizer features, the HDMI port connected to the console may need HDMI Ultra HD Deep Color (also called HDMI Deep Color) turned On.
- The screen may flicker briefly when the mode starts or when HDMI Deep Color is enabled.
- Some picture options may be unavailable while Game Optimizer/Instant Game Response is On.
- Menu names and locations can vary by model, region, and webOS version.
Game Optimizer mode may not appear or may not turn on in these situations.
This issue can occur if the connected HDMI port is not configured for enhanced HDMI signal (HDMI Ultra HD Deep Color/HDMI Deep Color), if the TV is using a different menu structure based on webOS version, or if the TV is not currently using the HDMI input where the console is connected.
1. The HDMI port is not set for enhanced signal
If HDMI Ultra HD Deep Color (HDMI Deep Color) is Off for the port your console uses, Game Optimizer-related options may be limited or unavailable.
2. Different webOS versions use different feature names and menu locations
Depending on your model year, you may see Game Optimizer (webOS 6.0 and later on many models) or Instant Game Response (common on webOS 5.0).
3. The TV is not on the console’s HDMI input
Some settings are easiest to find and apply when the TV is switched to the HDMI input where the console is connected.
Turn on Game Optimizer mode on your LG TV using the Settings menu
Step 1. Enable Game Optimizer (common on webOS 6.0 and later)
Setting: Settings > General > Game Optimizer
1) Turn on the TV and switch to the HDMI input where your game console is connected.
2) Press the Settings button on the remote.
3) Select All Settings.
4) Open General, then select Game Optimizer.
5) Set Game Optimizer to On.
Step 2. Enable Instant Game Response (common on webOS 5.0)
Setting: Settings > Picture > Additional Settings > Instant Game Response
1) Turn on the TV and switch to the HDMI input where your game console is connected.
2) Press the Settings button on the remote.
3) Select All Settings.
4) Select Picture, then Additional Settings.
5) Select Instant Game Response.
6) Set the connected HDMI port from Off to On.
Step 3. Turn on HDMI Ultra HD Deep Color (HDMI Deep Color) for the connected port
Setting: Settings > Picture > Additional Settings > HDMI Ultra HD Deep Color
1) Turn on the TV and switch to the HDMI input where your game console is connected.
2) Press the Settings button on the remote.
3) Select All Settings.
4) Select Picture, then Additional Settings.
5) Select HDMI Ultra HD Deep Color.
6) Set the HDMI port used by the console from Off to On.
7) Return to Game Optimizer (or Instant Game Response) and enable it again.
FAQ
- Q. Why does the screen flicker when I turn on Game Optimizer or HDMI Ultra HD Deep Color?
- A. A brief flicker can occur while the TV and console renegotiate the HDMI signal format (such as HDR, 4K, or high refresh rate). This is normal and should stop after a moment.
- Q. Why are some picture settings disabled after I enable Game Optimizer or Instant Game Response?
- A. Game-focused modes prioritize low input lag and stable gameplay. To do this, the TV may lock or limit certain picture processing options while the feature is On.
