When you press Power, an LG TV may take a few seconds to recognize input signals and start the picture and sound. If the TV powers on and then shuts off, or the standby indicator flashes and the screen never appears, follow the checks below and contact LG service if the symptom continues.
Please Note
- Use the LG TV remote control when performing the steps below.
- Do not use a set-top box or third-party remote while troubleshooting.
- If the standby indicator flashes and the TV turns off, or if there is sound with no picture and the TV menus do not appear, service may be required.
- If the screen does not appear for more than 10 seconds after power on, contact LG Electronics service for further diagnosis.
This power-on then power-off symptom can occur in these situations
A short delay at startup is normal while the TV recognizes broadcast or external input signals. In some cases, startup settings or a completed software update can change what you see during power on. If the TV does not display a picture and then turns off, the issue may require inspection by an LG service technician.
1. Normal startup signal recognition
After you turn the TV on, it can take about 1 to 5 seconds to recognize input signals from broadcasting or connected devices and then display video and audio.
2. Startup behavior changes after a software update
If the webOS logo appears and then the picture appears, the TV software has been updated to the latest version. This is expected behavior and is not a product fault.
3. Symptoms that may require service
The standby indicator flashes when you turn the TV on and then the TV turns off.
Only sound is heard and the screen does not appear, and pressing Settings/Menu or Volume on the TV remote does not bring up any on-screen display.
Try these steps when your LG TV turns on and then turns off
Step 1. Wait briefly to confirm normal startup
Turn the TV on and wait up to 5 seconds for the picture to appear.
If the webOS logo appears and then the picture appears, the TV has completed a software update and this is normal.
If the screen does not appear within 10 seconds, proceed to the next step and consider contacting LG Electronics service if the symptom continues.
Step 2. Turn on Q Start+ (Quick Start) to reduce power-on delay (if supported)
Setting: Settings > All Settings > General > System > Additional Settings > Quick Start+
Using the LG TV remote, press Settings and open All Settings if prompted.
Go to General, System, then Additional Settings.
Set Q Start+ to On.
Note: Menu names and availability may vary by model. If you cannot find Q Start+, refer to your model’s user guide.
Step 3. Contact LG Electronics service if service symptoms are present
If the standby indicator flashes and the TV turns off, or if you hear sound but see no picture and the TV menus do not appear when using the LG TV remote, contact LG Electronics service for further troubleshooting and inspection.
