If your LG TV shows the symptom 'Unable to connect to network,' first confirm whether the issue is with the home network or only the TV. Then check the TV’s network status screen to identify where the connection fails (TV, gateway/router, DNS, or internet).
Please Note
- Only change basic router settings unless you have technical knowledge.
- Unplug power cords by holding the plug body; do not pull the cable.
- If your modem/router is in a hard-to-reach area, ask your Internet Service Provider (ISP) for support.
- Do not handle electrical outlets or devices without proper precautions.
An LG TV network connection failure can occur in these situations.
This issue is commonly caused by a router/ISP outage, incorrect Wi-Fi credentials, loose or damaged cables, or a failed connection between the TV, router (gateway), DNS, and the internet.
1. The router or internet service is unavailable
If other devices (such as a smartphone) cannot access the internet through the same router, the issue is likely with the router/modem or your ISP service.
2. The TV is not properly connected to the router
For wired connections, a loose or damaged Ethernet cable can prevent the TV from reaching the router.
For Wi-Fi connections, an incorrect network name (SSID) or password can block authentication.
3. DNS or upstream internet connection is failing
Even if the TV connects to the router, the connection can still fail at DNS or internet. The TV’s network status screen can show where the failure occurs.
Check the LG TV network status and restore the connection using these steps.
Step 1. : Confirm whether the issue is the TV or the home network
1) Connect a smartphone or PC to the same router (Wi-Fi or wired) and check if the internet works.
2) If no devices can connect, restart your modem/router (see Step 4) and contact your ISP if needed.
3) If other devices connect normally, continue to Step 2 to check the TV’s network status.
Step 2. : Check the TV’s internet connection status (webOS 6.0 to webOS 25)
Setting: Settings > All Settings > General > Network > Wired Connection or Wi-Fi Connection
1) Press the Settings button on the remote control.
2) Select All Settings.
3) Open General, then Network.
4) Select Wired Connection or Wi-Fi Connection based on how your TV is connected.
5) Review the network status icons (TV, Gateway, DNS, Internet). Green indicates success; an X between icons indicates where the connection fails.
Step 3. : Apply the fix based on where the status shows an X
If the X appears between the TV and Gateway (router):
- Wired: Reseat the Ethernet cable at both the TV LAN port and the router LAN port. If the cable looks damaged, replace it.
- Wi-Fi: Re-enter the correct router name (SSID) and password. The SSID/password is often printed on a label on the router.
If the X appears between Gateway and DNS, or between DNS and Internet:
- The router may be online but cannot reach DNS or the internet. Restart the modem and router (Step 4). If the issue continues, contact your ISP.
Step 4. : Power reset the modem and router, then reconnect the TV
1) Unplug the modem power cord, wait 10 seconds, then plug it back in.
2) Unplug the router power cord, wait 10 seconds, then plug it back in.
3) Wait for the modem/router to fully restart (indicator lights stabilize).
4) On the TV, return to the Network menu and try connecting again.
Step 5. : If only the TV cannot connect, contact LG Support
If other devices connect to the same router without issues but the TV still cannot connect after the steps above, the TV may require additional diagnosis. Please contact LG Support.
For internet service outages or line issues, contact your ISP.
FAQ
- Q. How do I know whether the problem is my TV or my internet service?
- A. Check whether another device (such as a smartphone) can access the internet through the same router. If no devices can connect, the issue is likely the router/modem or ISP service. If other devices work, focus on the TV network settings and connection status screen.
- Q. What do the TV network status icons mean?
- A. They represent the connection path in order: TV, Gateway (router), DNS, and Internet. Green indicates a successful connection. An X between two icons indicates the connection is failing at that point.
