If your LG TV powers on or off by itself at specific times, a Power On/Off Timer or an inactivity auto power-off feature may be enabled. Check the TV time settings and turn off any timers that are not needed.
Please Note
- If the TV is unplugged or loses power, timer features may be unavailable or may not run as expected.
- If you use a set-top box, the TV may turn on at the scheduled time but the set-top box may stay off.
- Menu names and locations can vary by model and webOS version.
An LG TV that turns on and off repeatedly can happen when timer or auto power settings are enabled.
This symptom is often caused by scheduled Power On/Off timers or automatic power-off behavior after the TV turns on by timer and no one uses the remote for a set period. Incorrect time settings can also make timers trigger at unexpected times.
1. Power On Timer or Power Off Timer is enabled
If a Power On Timer or Power Off Timer is set, the TV can turn on or off at the scheduled time. This can look like a repeating power issue when the schedule repeats daily or on selected days.
2. The TV turns off automatically after a timer-based power on
On some models, when the TV turns on using a Power On Timer, it may turn off automatically after a period of inactivity (for example, 2 or 4 hours) if there is no remote control input.
3. The TV time is not set correctly
If the current time is incorrect, timer events may trigger at unexpected times, which can be mistaken for a malfunction.

1. Press the Settings button on the remote and open All Settings.
2. Go to General > System > Time & Timer > Timers.

FAQ
- Q. My LG TV turns on at the scheduled time, but my set-top box does not. Is this normal?
- A. Yes. If a set-top box is connected, the TV may turn on by timer but the set-top box may not power on automatically. You may need to turn on the set-top box separately or check the set-top box power and HDMI-CEC settings supported by that device.
- Q. Why does my LG TV turn off a few hours after it turns on by itself?
- A. Some models automatically turn the TV off after a period of inactivity when it was powered on by a Power On Timer. If you do not want this behavior, turn off the Power On Timer or use the TV with remote control input so it does not remain idle.
