If you notice small dots on your LG TV screen, they are often caused by inactive pixels. In most cases, this is a normal characteristic of display panels and does not affect overall performance or reliability.
Please Note
- Do not press, rub, or tap the screen to try to remove dots.
- Do not use sharp tools, abrasive cloths, or strong solvents on the panel.
- If the dots spread, change color, or are accompanied by flickering or lines, stop using the product and contact LG Support.
Dots on an LG TV screen can appear when some pixels are inactive.
A TV screen is made up of millions of pixels. In rare cases, a very small number of pixels may not operate normally and can appear as tiny bright or dark dots. This can occur across all display devices and typically does not impact product performance or reliability.
1. Inactive pixels (bright or dark dots)
Your LG TV panel contains approximately two million to six million pixels, depending on the model and resolution.
In some cases, about 1 pixel per million (1 PPM) may appear as a fine dot.
These dots are usually inactive pixels (for example, a bright pixel or a dead pixel) and generally do not affect performance or reliability.
2. Panel manufacturing characteristics
Very small panel irregularities can occur during manufacturing and may appear as fine dot-like defects.
This is a common characteristic across display devices worldwide.
This guide is written for multiple models, so the appearance and examples may differ from your product.
Check whether the dots are caused by the content or by the TV panel.
Step 1. Confirm the dots appear on the TV menu
Press the Settings button on the remote to open the TV menu.
If the dots are visible on the menu or Home screen, they are likely related to the panel rather than a specific app or external device.
Step 2. Check multiple sources and inputs
Test several types of content (live TV, streaming apps, and an HDMI device if available).
If the dots appear only on one source, the issue may be caused by the connected device, cable, or the content itself.
If the dots appear on every source and on TV menus, the dots are likely inactive pixels.
Step 3. When to contact LG Support
Contact LG Support if the dots increase over time, form clusters, change color, or are accompanied by other symptoms such as lines, flickering, or a partial image loss.
Be ready to share a photo of the screen and confirm whether the dots appear on the TV menu screen.
FAQ
- Q. Are a few dots on the screen considered a product failure?
- A. Not always. Because the panel contains millions of pixels, a very small number of inactive pixels can appear as tiny bright or dark dots. In many cases, this does not affect performance or reliability.
- Q. Why do the dots appear only in certain scenes or apps?
- A. If dots appear only with specific content, they may be caused by the video source, compression, or an external device/cable. If the dots also appear on the TV menu or Home screen, they are more likely related to the panel.
