Understanding induction cooking

What it is and why you’ll love it

How it works

Induction heats your cookware, not the cooktop, using a magnetic connection. When a compatible pan touches the surface, energy transfers directly for instant, efficient heat and a cooler cooking surface.

Cookware compatibility

Induction cooking requires magnetic cookware — but don’t worry, most modern pots and pans are compatible. Look for “induction-ready” or “IH” labels. Cast iron, magnetic stainless steel, and some enameled steel work great. For optimal performance, use flat-bottomed cookware that matches the size of the cooking zone.

Fast, precise and efficient

Induction heats cookware directly for fast boil times and responds instantly to changes in temperature. Heat goes straight to the food so less is wasted.

Frequently asked questions

What types of cookware are compatible with induction?

Only cookware with a magnetic base is compatible. Look for pans labeled “induction-ready” or “IH” marked. Suitable materials include stainless steel (if magnetic), cast iron, and some enameled steel. Cookware must also have a flat bottom and be the right size for the cooking zone.

Does this need special electrical wiring?

Yes. This cooktop requires a dedicated 240/208 VAC, 60 Hz circuit. The 30” model needs a 30 Amp breaker with #10 AWG wiring; the 36” model needs a 40 Amp breaker with #8 AWG wiring. It must be properly grounded by a qualified electrician.

Is it hard to clean?

No. The cooktop is designed with a ceramic-glass surface that’s easy to clean using the provided cleaner. For best results, clean after each use using non-abrasive products.

Is the cooktop surface hot during use?

Yes, the ceramic surface can become hot due to residual heat transferred from the pan. A hot surface indicator stays on until the surface cools down.

Can I control it from my phone?

Yes. The cooktop has built-in Wi-Fi and can be monitored using the LG ThinQ app, which provides status updates and notifications.

What happens if I forget to turn it off?

The cooktop includes safety shutoff features. If a zone is turned on without cookware or if no power level is selected, it will shut off automatically after a short period. A residual heat indicator also stays lit.

How loud is the cooling fan?

The cooling fan may be noticeable, especially with heavy use, but this is normal. It may continue to run even after the cooking zones are off, to cool down the unit.

Is installation included?

No. Installation must be done by a qualified technician and is not included with the product.

How does induction heat food?

A. Induction uses magnetic fields to heat the cookware directly, not the cooktop surface. Heat is generated instantly at the base of the pot for fast, efficient cooking.

Why does my cooktop make a buzzing or clicking sound?

Buzzing and clicking are normal during induction operation, especially with lightweight or empty cookware or when using Boost mode.

What happens if I use the wrong pan?

If incompatible or improperly sized cookware is used, the cooktop may not detect it and the element will not activate. A compatible magnetic bottom is required.

Can I use this cooktop if I have a pacemaker?

Caution is advised. Electromagnetic fields from the induction cooktop may interfere with pacemakers. Consult your doctor or device manufacturer.

Does the timer turn off the burner?

No. The timer is a reminder only and does not shut off any cooking zone automatically.

What safety features are built in?

Features include residual heat indicators, automatic shutoff if cookware is not detected, Control Lock, a Pause function, and a fan to manage internal temperature.

What should I do if an error code appears?

Turn off the cooktop and restart it. If the code persists, unplug the cooktop or turn off the breaker for 60 seconds. Contact LG service if needed.
