Auto-dosing, also called automatic detergent dispensing, is a washing machine feature that automatically measures and adds the correct amount of detergent for each load. Instead of pouring detergent into the machine every time you do laundry (and trying to figure out how much is the right amount), the washer stores detergent in a built-in compartment and releases only what’s needed when it starts a cycle.
The main purpose of auto-dose systems is to take the guesswork out of laundry. Many people accidentally use too much or too little detergent when measuring it themselves. Too much detergent can leave residue on clothes and inside the machine, while too little may not clean clothes properly. Auto-dosing helps you clean clothes and minimises waste – all for less effort.

Auto-dosing works through a simple three-step process that happens automatically inside the washing machine.
The first is filling the detergent reservoir. Simply add liquid detergent to the built-in compartment, and you can add a fabric softener as well if you choose to. This reservoir stores enough detergent for multiple washes, usually around 20 to 35 loads depending on the model .
Next comes load sensing. Before the wash begins, sensors inside the machine weigh the laundry in the drum. By measuring how heavy the load is, the washer can estimate the amount of detergent needed to help effective cleaning. Additionally, select LG models detect the cloudiness of the load with the turbidity sensor*, and adjust accordingly. This helps ensure that smaller loads are not overdosed and larger loads still get enough detergent for a proper wash.
Finally, the machine automatically dispenses the detergent. Based on the load weight and cloudiness of the load*, it releases the determined amount of detergent from the reservoir into the wash cycle. This entire process happens automatically at the start of each cycle, so once the reservoir is filled, you can simply start the wash and let the machine handle the dosing for you.

The detergent compartments are accessible and removable, making them easy to refill when needed. These models also include an Auto Nozzle Clean cycle that flushes the ezDispense® system to help keep it clean and working properly.
Plus, you can link the detergent and softener compartments, or use them separately. You can even store two different types of detergent and switch between them depending on the wash.
In other words, these auto-dosing machines make it as convenient and easy as possible to do your laundry.
Note that ezDispense® technology works best with standard liquid detergents and fabric softeners. Avoid using powdered detergents, ultra-concentrated formulas, and gel detergents.

When using auto-dose technology for the first time, start by filling the detergent reservoir according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Then, the machine will let you know when it needs a refill – usually after 20 to 35 loads, depending on the size of each wash.
Many auto-dosing systems also allow you to adjust the preset detergent amount if needed. This can be helpful if you prefer a slightly higher or lower dosage, or if you are using a detergent with different strength. For heavily soiled items, some machines also allow you to manually add extra detergent for that specific load.
To keep the system working well, keep the detergent reservoir clean and run any recommended maintenance cycles, such as an Auto Nozzle Clean cycle, which flushes the dispensing system to help prevent buildup.
