Why does my sound bar keep turning off?
Sound bars will usually turn themselves off automatically when they fail to detect an audio signal to process. This is a result from either a faulty cable (wired connection), loose connection or volume being too low.
Auto Power
Some Sound bar units automatically turns on by an input source : Optical, LG TV or Bluetooth.

- If the unit was turned on by the Auto Power function, and if there is no signal for a certain period of time from the external device it will be automatically turned off.
Other factors known to contribute
- Power consumption : Sound bars feature power-saving settings. When a sound bar fails to receive an input signal or isn’t operated for a certain amount of time, it will simply turn itself off. This feature cannot be averted as it ensures minimal useless power consumption from device.
- Overheating : Running a sound bar too LOUD for so long in an environment less prone to good airflow ventilation risk damaging the product.
- Low volume level : Some sound bars are more sensitive to the input signal and may turn themselves off when sound volume is too low or inability for peripheral to detect some tangible signal to process.
- Loose connection : If the sound bar wire is connected loosely to the TV, it may turn off.
- No AUX input : Whenever using an auxiliary (AUX) input, if no sound bar buttons (unit self or remote controller) are pressed in an 8-hour playing period, the sound bar will turn off.
- Defective cable : If you are using an optical cable or HDMI, the cable may be defective, which will inadvertently cause the sound bar to lose connection. Inexpensive cables tend to break more easily at the ends from pulling and reinserting.
- Set-top box : If the sound bar is connected to an external disc player or set-top box, the sound signal emitted may be low, causing the sound bar to enter sleep mode. Turn up the volume to an adequate level to solve this issue.
- Defective sound bar : Your sound bar may face some technical defects or have worn out. Please contact LG Electronics to examine your options.
- "Found a hack to disable the auto-shutoff. Press POWER button and VOLUME DOWN button on the Sound Bar (not the remote controller’s) simultaneously for 10 seconds. This seems to have disabled the auto shutoff for 4 hours. Tested and the sound bar went on standby mode after 4 hours."
- "Reset the sound bar by powering it OFF and then pressing and holding the STOP button on the actual unit (not the remote) until display shows “INIT OK”. Power the sound bar back ON then pair it to your TV once gain."
