Fixing LG Smart TV "Out of Memory" Error
Smart TVs, unlike laptops or PCs, have limited internal memory. When streaming content or using apps, the memory can become full, causing the "Out of Memory" error message to appear. Here's how to fix the issue:
Try this
Quick Solutions
>- Clear Internal Memory
- Use the built-in troubleshooting steps on your TV to free up memory.
- Use External Storage
- If internal memory is insufficient, insert a USB drive (32GB or less) into your TV's USB port. The TV will use the external memory to handle additional storage needs.
- For larger storage, USB hard drives up to 2TB are supported.
- Format the USB drive as FAT32 or NTFS (NTFS is recommended for faster speeds and better storage management).
- Use Apps from the LG Content Store
- Instead of using the web browser, download apps from the LG Content Store to reduce memory usage and avoid buffering issues.
Clearing Browser Data
>If the issue occurs while using the web browser:
- Press HOME → Open Browser from the Launcher bar
- Click Browser Settings icon (kebab menu) at top right of the screen.
- Select Settings from the drop-down dialog box.
- Turn Private Browsing “on”
- Click on Clear Browsing Data.
- Between powering OFF then ON again, you may want to unplug the TV from the wall AC socket to clear any possible remaining ghost charge.
- Proceed to streaming to verify that the situation has been rectified. If not, repeat steps from the beginning and select History Bookmarks to delete those as well.
- Now, if after all this, the pop up message on screen still persists or the message is more in the lines of “This app will now restart to free up more memory”, we must conclude there is some unknown programming error that has trickled its way through
Persistent Issues
>- If the error persists or the message says, "This app will restart to free up more memory," it may be caused by a software bug.
- Contact LG Support with your TV model, serial number, and any relevant app information or screenshots for further assistance.
