Tub Clean Maintenance Cycle
Video tutorial explaining Tub Clean feature for the caring and maintenance of the washer drum to ensure optimal washing performance by removing film of grime accumulating on the surface of the stainless steel drum over time.
Note
Performing regular maintenance on your washing machine prevents mold and mildew around the rubber door
gasket. Cleaning the dirt accumulated after multiple washing cycles keeps the washer smelling fresh.
Running the
TUB CLEAN cycle once per month will remove mildew, eliminate moisture, and
prevent mold. Refer to
LG Front Load Washer Maintenance for more information.
Some washing machines, such as all-in-one combination washer/dryers and
WashTowers feature TubClean. However, you won't find that option on the WASH CYCLE knob.
Software engineers located the TUB CLEAN option as a secondary function. Please find below example illustrations:

PLEASE NOTE: as a secondary function, option is activated only if respective button is PRESSED & HELD for 3 long seconds until the indicator light on control panel turns ON.
Else, you will activate button's MAIN function.
Once the TUB CLEAN indicator light has turned ON, press the START/PAUSE button to commence tub cleaning execution.
Always a good idea to add vinegar in detergent dispenser drawer prior to executing cleaning of the tub.
Some models will not feature the Tub Clean option on the Cycle Dial. Look for it as an Extra Function button identified with an asterisk (*) whereas you will need to press & hold the button for at least 3 seconds to activate. For example, model number WM1355H Tub Clean option is located with the WATER PLUS option button.

How do I use the Tub Clean cycle on my washing machine ?
If there is lint build up on the tub or the tub smells moldy, use washing machine cleaners to clean the tub regularly.
You can maintain the tub clean all the time if you run the Tub Clean cycle once per month. If you see ‘tcL’ flashing from the control panel, it means that it’s time for you to clean the tub. Empty the unit and run the Tub Clean cycle.
Models with Tub Clean cycle feature.
If you are using LG washing machine with [Tub Clean] feature, add washing machine cleaner and run the cycle.
- Press the [Power] button.
- Press [Cycle] button and select [Tub Clean] cycle.
- Add correct amount of washing machine cleaner by following the manufacturer’s dosage instructions.
- Press [Start/Pause] button. Remaining time will be shown on the control panel.
- The power will go off 10 seconds after the cycle is over.
Models without Tub Clean cycle feature.
- Add correct amount of washing machine cleaner by following the manufacturer’s dosage instructions.
- Fill 2/3 of the tub with water and run a wash cycle for 2-3 minutes to mix the cleaner and turn off the unit.
- Turn on the unit after 2~4 hours.
- Run a wash cycle that includes [Wash]-[Rinse]-[Spin] cycles.
Clean Filter models (light blue, model no.: TR***) cannot select hot water for Tub Clean cycle. If you want to clean the tub with hot water, select a cycle option from standard course to operate. (E.g. Standard cycle + Temp. high, add Soak cycle + Water level 10, low spin speed)
How to prevent musty odor and build ups from the tub
- Leave the door/lid open after every cycle until the tub is completely dry.
- Use correct amount of detergents and fabric softeners as instructed by the manufacturers. Dilute concentrated softeners with water for use.
- You can maintain the washer clean by cleaning the tub regularly.(Preferably once a month)
- We do not recommend natural detergents (soap) as it does not get dissolved in water well and cause removed dirt to build up on the tub more easily.
- If the unit is installed in a damp and dark area or have not been in used for a long time, more dust can build up to the tub. If you haven’t cleaned the tub for more than 6 months, clean the tub 3 times in a row.
