A dE error code indicates that the washer door was unable to lock. This can normally be resolved by performing a simple reset on the washing machine.
“dE” notification in the washing machine’s display window tells you that the door was unable to lock itself. When this occurs, the washing machine will shut off and a dE error code will appear in the display panel. This error is usually resolved by a simple reset of the washing machine.
- Piece of clothing trapped in-between door and the tub.
- Loose door hinge causing door to be misaligned with latchet.
- Worn-out or faulty door lock latchet.
Door Obstruction
Make sure there is nothing from inside the tub preventing the door from closing fully and properly.Bent Washer Door Hinge
Keep the door aligned to make sure it shuts properly. If you are unsure whether hinges have been bent, try closing the door manually: if it is loose, then you need to carefully bend the hinges back into place.A washing machine door hinge is a bit more complicated than you might think. It is made of three separate components that need to fit together in perfect harmony: the metal part, plastic bearings and the electronic circuit board that connects them all.
Replacing just one part can often solve the problem.
Verify Whether a Faulty Door Lock Assembly
The washer door lock keeps the water inside the tub. It also prevents the appliance from operating when door is left ajar. It appears simple, but the machine will not operate if the door won’t lock.Over time, the lock mechanism can wear down, loosen up, or otherwise malfunction. If this happens, you will need to inspect the hardware to decide whether repairing or replacing it.
Inspect the lock for visible damage. If there is visible damage to the lock or if it doesn’t seem to latch properly, replace it with a new one. To check whether the problem lies with an electronic lock, you will require a multimeter to test each of the switches for continuity. If one of them doesn’t have continuity, get it replaced.
Verify Door Latch condition
If the washer door is not closing, inspect whether the door latch could be misaligned or malfunctioning. This is done by visually inspecting the orientation of the clasp. If you see an open space around the clasp, this means the door has been propped open. Look for a plastic cover nearby that has fallen off or is missing — this is the cause of your problem. Put it back in place.Once you have released the door clasp, the washer door will be restored to its original position. Close the door and reopen it to confirm that the problem has been fixed — you can now resume your laundry normally.
If the washer door is still not closing, the latch might be defective. Inspect the door and latch for damage. If either the door or latch is damaged, replace the faulty part.
Verify Door Strike (latch hook) condition
Make sure the door strike assembly is not damaged. If it is, replace it. Door strike assembly cannot be repaired — if it is damaged, you must replace it.- Press POWER to turn the washer off.
- Unplug the washer from the power outlet or turn the circuit breaker to the unit off.
- With the power disabled, press and hold the START/PAUSE button for 5 seconds.
(clears any flea power – residual electricity trapped in electronic components) - Plug the washer back in, or turn the circuit breaker back on.

Press on the door firmly and select any cycle. The washer door should lock and the cycle should begin without an error code appearing in the display window. If the cycle does not begin and the dE code appears again, repair service is required.
