Grinding Noise
A front load washing machine experiencing grinding noise is usually attributed to generally two possible cause: metal foreign object caught and rubbing between drum and tub or, a worn out bearing.
A few things to consider while exploring root cause and subsequent resolution options.
- Is the sound a loud or moderate grinding noise?
- How old exactly is the washing machine?
- When the washer is stopped & empty, will rotating the drum by hand make a metallic scratching noise?
If the grinding noise is moderate yet high-pitched, there could be something like keys, safety bin, bra wire string, etc. that could have slipped in between the drum and the tub. You could attempt removing it yourself or get a certified repairman to fix it for you.
If the grinding noise is quite loud and manually rotating the empty drum tells you something appears to be wrong with the motor, it could be a worn out bearing, drive pulley or motor coupling.
A tub ball bearing assembly is generally filled with grease. Over time, water seeping through will cause the ball bearings to rub metal on metal and rapidly wear itself out to the point of generating a loud high-pitched screeching grinding noise
There is no quick fix troubleshooting tip to resolve such an issue. The in-home service of a certified repairman will be required.

Customers hesitating over the great value of LG’s ONE Price Flate Rate Program, please consider this :
A customer once confessed over the phone that, in hindsight, had she shown then about the LG Flat Rate program, it would have cost them less than having her husband spend an entire day replacing the boot gasket on their front load washer. Customer came to that conclusion factoring in her husband’s lost wages the day he spent playing novice repairman.
