Clothing coming out of the washer with stains streaks or plush particles clinging on
If clothing, especially darker garments, come out of the washer with white streaks all over or covered with plush, fluff or fuzz you need to first determine whether it is soapy residue or lint.
Confirm type of residue by manually rinsing affected clothing in lukewarm water. If it’s a lint issue it will still cling to the fabric. Don’t try to rub it off. Instead, put that load in the dryer for 10 to 15 minutes for the lint to dislodge from the heat.
If manual rinsing takes care of the white streak marks, those would have been caused by excessive use of soap and softener. Please use High efficiency (HE) liquid detergent sparingly as recommended on manufacturer’s detergent canister. The same applies with fabric softener as to quantity used per load.
Energy efficient washing machine can use up to 60% less water than older conventional washing machine. Detergent and additives should be used sparingly in consequence.
Cause and Symptoms
- Adding too much bleach to the load causes the fabrics to release lint.
- Washing in water for which temperature is too cold will cause fabric to release lint.
- Avoid mixing lint producing clothing with lint collecting garments in the same load.
Try this
- Run regular Tub Clean cycles.
- Use high efficiency detergent (HE), bleach and fabric softener sparingly.
- Select most appropriate cycle for the load(There is always the option of adding extra rinse cycles).
- Put load in the dryer for 10 to 15 minutes to dislodge the lint from clothing.
- Select lukewarm water temperature.
- Some washing machines feature the option of adding more water to the wash.
Load Type
If you are washing items that are new in your unit, it is normal for them to produce more lint first few times they are washed.
You should always sort lint producing fabrics like towels and sweaters from items that are more prone to pick up lint suc as corduroys, synthetics and perrmanent press items. The lint produced by a towel is easily picked up synthetic materials and polyesters. Sorting the items based upon fabric type wil help to reduce any excess lint accumulating on the items.
Items Left in Pockets
Tissue or paper will disintegrate during the cycle and look like lint at the end of the cycle it left in your pockets. All pockets should be emptied prior to loading the machine so that items like receipts and tissues are not washed with the clothing. If you suspect this is the issue check the drain filter to be sure it is clean and clear of obstruction.
Load Size
For cycles such as Sanitary, Heavy Duty and Normal the washer can be fully loaded but not tightly packed. Overloading the machine will cause lint to get trapped rather than rinsing out with the water. Neverfill the drum of your washer more than 3/4 the way full, or no more than 22 lbs of dry linen.
Clothes Line or Air Dried
Line or air drying will not remove lint from clothing like a dryer will. This is because the air movement and tumbling of a dryer actually removes lint from the load. If you're line or air drying clothing be sure to shake the clothing out well it may be necessary to use a lint roller / brush to remove additional lint when clothes aren't dried using an electric or gas dryer.
