Cause and Symptoms
Oil generated during continuous cooking using the air fryer mode risks getting splashed on the inner walls of the oven cavity, resulting in an increased amount of smoke compared to initial use.
- If you continue to cook greasy food, a lot of smoke may be generated, so be careful when cooking.
- When cooking different types of foods, start with Low fat foods first.
- If there is too much oil on the inside surface of the oven, clean the inside before cooking.
Try this
Instructions may vary from model to model, please refer to your owner’s manual for specific guidelines.
-
Frying pieces of fresh chicken, such as peeled wings or drumsticks, using air fryer mode risks causing smoke because the fat gets rendered at high temperatures. If there is too much smoke, cook using a broiler pan and grid in convection roast mode instead of the air fry mode and dedicated tray.
-
Place a foil-lined baking tray on a rack in position 2 to catch the oil falling from the food. For high-fat foods like chicken wings, add a few sheets of parchment paper to absorb the fat.
-
Open a window or sliding glass door, if possible, to make sure the kitchen is well-ventilated.
Note
- For best results, use the optional air fry tray, available for purchase at ww.lg.com.
- If you don't have the air fry tray, place food on a wire rack inside a foil-lined cookie pan.
- The mesh section of the air fry tray can be cleaned in a dishwasher.
Tips on Reducing Smoke
- High-fat food will smoke when using Air Fry . Follow these recommendations when air frying food such as chicken wings, bacon, sausage, hot dogs, turkey legs, lamb chops, ribs, pork loin, duck breasts, hamburgers, or any plant-based protein food.
- Turn your exhaust hood “on” at a high-speed fan setting before you start Air Fry and leave it on for 15 minutes after you are done frying.
- Open a window or sliding glass door, if possible, to make sure the kitchen is well-ventilated.
- Place a foil-lined baking tray on a rack in position 2 to catch the oil falling from the food frying. For high-fat food content such as chicken wings, add a few sheets of parchment paper to the foil-lined drip tray in order to absorb the fat.
- Clean the grease filters on your exhaust hood regularly.
- Keep the oven free from grease buildup. Wipe down the interior before and after air frying (once the oven has cooled).
- Run cleaning cycles (Easy Clean™ or Self Clean) regularly, depending on how often and what types of food you Air Fry.
- Avoid opening the oven door more than necessary to help maintain the oven temperature, prevent heat loss, and save energy.
Choosing and Using appropriate oil
- If desired, spray the baking tray or Air Fry Tray with a pan spray.
- Use avocado, grapeseed, peanut, sunflower, or any other oil which can withstand the high temperatures used in air frying without smoking.
- Oil such as extra virgin olive oil is not a good choice because it will burn off, creating smoke and causing food to become dry rather than crispy.
- The smoke points of various oils can be found online.
Crispier Results
- Cook food on a single rack in position 4.
- Use the optional Air Fry Tray or a dark non-stick pan.
- Spread the food out evenly in a single layer.
- Arrange food so that the hot air circulates around each piece as much as possible.
- Check food often and shake it or turn it over for crispier results.
- For the crispiest fresh chicken wings or tenders, dredge them in seasoned flour. Use 1/3 cup flour for 2 lbs. of meat.
Cleanup
- When using the Air Fry Tray, place a baking tray on a lower rack to catch drips or crumbs.
- Line the baking tray with foil for easier cleanup.
- Add parchment paper to absorb oil if cooking high-fat food like bacon or chicken wings with the skin on.
Caution Never line the bottom of the oven with aluminum foil or liners (risks of welding itself to the bottom of the oven), or place bakeware directly on the oven bottom.
Final Tips
- Prepared frozen foods may cook faster with the Air Fry mode than stated on the package. Reduce the cooking time by about 20 percent. Check food early and adjust cooking time as needed.
- If cooking multiple batches, the later batches may take less time to cook.
- Use a food thermometer to make sure food has reached a safe temperature for consumption. Eating undercooked meats can increase your risk of food-borne illness.
