Narration
Leaking issues with front load washers can often be resolved without a technician.
The first step is to discover the source of the leak.
If you’re seeing leaking coming from underneath the washer, here are some troubleshooting steps for you to take.
Though it sounds funny, sometimes, leaks that appear to come from underneath the washer are actually coming from the back, through the safety air vent.
This can usually be attributed to using too much detergent.
Unlike older washers, new models of washers are built to use a small quantity of water and detergent.
Always be sure to use HE or high efficiency detergent, as directed.
Your machine may only require as little as 1 to 2 tablespoons per cycle.
And if you must use fabric softener, dilute it with water in a 50/50 ratio, and use it sparingly.
If you are using HE detergent, and have verified that the leakage is not coming from the safety air vent, then proceed with these next steps:
First make sure the washer is empty, turned off, unplugged, and drained of any visible water in the tub.
Open the service panel where the manual drain hose and drain filter are located.
The panel is on the front bottom-left corner of the washer.
Have a shallow pan ready by the service panel to collect any water.
Next, check the manual drain hose.
Remove it from the clip and gently pull it out until it stops.
Do not force it.
Then inspect the hose.
If you see any holes, splits or cracks, the manual drain hose should be replaced.
Contact LG to request service.
If the manual drain hose is not damaged, check if the cap at the end of the hose is fully seated.
If not, push the cap all the way into the hose.
Check to see if the cap is damaged.
Then check the drain filter to see if it is loose.
Try turning it to the right.
If the filter does not turn, it is secured.
If the filter does turn, push it in and turn it to the right until it stops.
If the filter is loose but will not tighten, turn it to the left to remove it, and check for anything inside the filter housing that could be blocking it.
Clean the filter with a soft-bristle brush and warm water, and clean the drain filter opening.
Then try inserting and tightening the filter again.
If the filter still will not seat, replace it.
If the manual drain hose cap or the drain filter were not secured properly, once you have secured them run a test cycle.
If the hose or filter were damaged, or both are secured but the leak persists, contact LG to request repair service.
