No Aspect Ratio Option (greyed out)
Streaming services often crop classic 4:3 content to fit widescreen (16:9), removing parts of the original image with no option to revert. TVs can't restore the missing content. Viewers can contact providers to request the original format. When using a laptop via HDMI, aspect ratio settings are controlled by the computer, not the TV.
When streaming video from service providers on a TV, the option to change the aspect ratio may be unavailable or greyed out. This also occurs when connecting a laptop to the TV. Instructions for adjusting PC content to fill the TV screen are provided later in the article.
- From your laptop computer, click the Windows button at the bottom left of the screen in the taskbar. Then click on the GEAR icon (Settings) above on the left
- From the Windows Settings page, select SYSTEM
- In the DISPLAY option, try to match video card resolution to that of the TV and if more adjustments to fill the screen are required, use the Scale and Layout option.
