Variable refresh rate (VRR) - Gaming [television]
FreeSync is AMD's implementation of VESA's VRR standard. FreeSync branded monitors should be compatible with all VESA compatible drivers.
G-SYNC is NVIDIA's proprietary hardware and software implementation of VRR.
NVDIA G-Sync’s revolutionary performance is achieved by synchronizing display refresh rates to the GPU in your GeForce GTX-powered PC, eliminating screen tearing and minimizing display stutter and input lag. This results in scenes appearing instantly, objects looking sharper, and super smooth gameplaying, providing the user a stunning visual experience and a serious competitive edge. G-SYNC is one of the common variable refresh rate (VRR) formats to reduce screen tearing when the frame rate of your game drops.
Note
Some TV models and computer graphics cards may not support this technology.
Advantage and Benefits
VRR technology resolves the problems of stuttering or shattered image representation caused by a discrepancy between the image transfer from the PC graphics card and the representation on the TV screen so that users can fully enjoy smooth and seamless motions on a hi-fi game screen implemented by NVIDIA’s graphics card or AMD.
VRR
This reduces screen cracking and video lagging during game play
VRR & G-Sync
NVIDIA's display adaptive sync technology adjusts frames to minimize screen tearing and stuttering.
AMD FreeSync Premium
Set to On. AMD's display adaptive sync technology adjusts the injection rate to minimize screen breaks and stuttering.
The LED/QNED model can be set up as follows:
- High : The range of supported refresh rates is 90 Hz - 120 Hz.
- Wide : The range of supported refresh rates is 48 Hz - 120 Hz.
Screen flickering may occur in some gaming environments. In this case, set it to High.
How to enable VRR
- Make you're connected with either the console's factory HDMI (2.1) or any other supported 2.1 HDMI on your LG TV
- On the [2022 WebOS 22] Select (
) → [All Settings] → [General] → [Game Optimizer] → [Game] → [VRR & G-Sync] → [On]
- Change the picture mode to Game mode
- Go to your console and toggle the VRR settings On :
On the PS5 Go to Settings -> Screen -> VRR and toggle it to Automatic
On the Series X Go to Settings -> Video Modes and allow VRR
On PC (G-SYNC) Open the NVIDIA Control Panel -> Select “Display” on the upper tabs and go to “Set up G-SYNC” and enable.
On PC (AMD FreeSync) Open the AMD Radeon Software -> go to Settings via the icon on the upper right then Display on the top tabs and enable.
- Test if the feature is working by pressing repeatedly the green button on your TV Remove. A pop up will then appear.
- Check the information in the Popup if it says “Fixed” then your VRR is not on, if it says VRR and shows you the live fps, then VRR is working for you!
Note
In some consoles you need to turn on Instant Game Response or Deep Colour Output in the Picture Settings in order for the console to detect you support VRR.
