Squeaking Noise
Depending on when the squeaking noise is heard, it may be normal. Most of the time, noises are muffled during the day by activity in the home, but heard at night when it is more quiet. Certain types of installations can make these sounds louder than others.
Cause and Symptoms
A squeaking noise from an LG refrigerator could be caused by a number of things :
- Hinges - When opening or closing the door, strange noises may sound if there is a lot of friction at the bottom hinges. Using grease or cooking oil to lubricate the door hinges can be helpful.
- Gasket - Because the gasket seals tightly on new refrigerators, they may whistle or squeak. Rubbing petroleum jelly or paraffin wax on the gasket may be helpful.
- Fan motor - The fan motor at the back of the refrigerator could be making a squeaking noise. This could be due to a loose or worn-out part, as well as a buildup of dust or debris.
- Coils - Dust, dirt, and other debris can accumulate in the coils on the back or bottom of the refrigerator. Cleaning the coils can be beneficial.
Try this
If the squeaking sound is occurring when the doors are opened or closed, it may be that the doors are not being aligned properly or the unit is not leveled. If this is the case, align the doors or level the unit.
The hinges may also be dry. Apply a food grade silicon grease to the hinge to quiet the noise. On models that begin with LFC, LFX, or LMX, the latch on the underside of the refrigerator door may be dirty or dry. Clean the latch and apply a food grade silicon grease to lubricate the hinge and prevent this noise.
