Understanding the terms

Image retention refers to any image that "sticks" on a screen, even when the content changes. It usually appears as a faint ghost, and with most TVs this fades after a moment or two.

Burn-in is a form of image retention that lasts much longer, and it's usually visible even when playing other content. It's usually caused by leaving a static image on a screen for a long period of time.

Causes of burn in

Channels that have a static logo, such as news channels, can leave a burn in if left for a prolonged time.

Pausing a video game and leaving the TV on for prolonged periods.

Having the mode set to vivid or having the brightness level very high for extended time periods.

Lg Tv's also offer settings to help move or refresh pixels such as:

Screen Saver
LGs wall paper slide show (screen saver) is set to show images that would refresh all the pixels and help prevent image burn in.

Screen shift
A setting that moves the screen slightly at regular intervals to prevent image sticking on the display panel.

> Setting
> All Settings
> Picture tab > Oled Panel Settings > Screen Shift > ON

Select Clear Panel Noise.
Set it to Screen Shift to ON

Clear panel Noise
An option that helps calibrate any issues that may arise on the screen when your TV has been turned on for a long time.

If you use the TV normally there's no need to run it manually. It will run automatically every time you turn off the TV. It will always do ~5min cycles every time the panel accumulates more than 4h of ON time, and the full 1h cycle when the panel accumulates 1000h of ON time.

Choose the Picture menu from the left and select OLED Panel Settings.
Select Clear Panel Noise.
Click Start once TV is turned off
Note: If you power on the TV, the Clear panel noise (pixel refresher) will stop operating.

Additional ways to reduce the effect

Create an all-white screen in a graphics application and save it as a JPEG file and use this as the image displayed by the screen saver, or Search YouTube for "white background".

Turn the display brightness down (but not off) to preserve back light bulb life.
